DeForest Buckner - Strip-sack in loss Buckner had three tackles (two solo), including a sack and a forced fumble, in Sunday's 38-27 loss to the Saints.

Impact Buckner got to Derek Carr early in the second quarter and forced a fumble that was recovered by the Colts and led to a Zack Moss touchdown minutes later. Buckner is up to four sacks on the year -- tied with Samson Ebukam for the team lead -- and is well on pace to match or exceed his 2022 total of eight.

Shaquille Leonard - Double-digit tackles for first time Leonard had 11 tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 38-27 loss to the Saints.

Impact It was the first time Leonard reached double-digit tackles since Oct. 11, 2021. He's up to 46 tackles in seven games, but he's yet to record a sack and hasn't done so since the 2020 season. Leonard will look to change that in Week 9 against the Panthers.

Zaire Franklin - Surpasses 100 tackles Sunday Franklin had 14 tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 38-27 loss to the Saints.

Impact Franklin has registered double-digit tackles in seven of eight games this season and has played in 100 percent of defensive snaps in five of those contests, though he didn't reach that mark Sunday. Franklin has been a tackling machine all season long and is the first player in the league to reach 100-plus tackles on the year with 102. He's well on pace to surpass the 167 tackles he had in 2022 and will look to keep his spot as the league's tackle leader in Week 9 against the Panthers.

Will Mallory - Just one reception Mallory had one reception for six yards on two targets in Sunday's loss to New Orleans.

Impact Mallory played on 15 of of the offense's 71 snaps. He went out for a pass on all 15 of his snaps, which was the second-most routes among the tight ends (Drew Ogletree had 20 and Mo Alie-Cox had 13). However, that usage doesn't translate to many fantasy points, as the Colts don't use tight ends much in the passing game and divide the targets among multiple players at the position.

Impact Gay remained effective in Week 8, drilling all the kicks he was called on for versus the Saints. He's up to an 87.5 percent conversion rate on field-goal tries on the season, and he's still perfect on extra-point attempts in 2023. In Week 9, the Colts will travel to take on an unexceptional Carolina defense.

Andrew Ogletree - Just one reception in loss Ogletree started at tight end and had one reception for 33 yards on three targets in Sunday's loss to New Orleans.

Impact He was in the starting lineup a second consecutive game with Kylen Granson out with a concussion. Ogletree wasn't targeted in the Colts' last game despite starting, so this is an improvement. He led Indy tight ends in snaps on offense (38 of 71) and routes run (20), according to Pro Football Focus. However, Indianapolis throws few passes toward tight ends, making them not viable options for most fantasy formats.

Josh Downs - Team-high receiving yardage in loss Downs secured seven of nine targets for 72 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' 38-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday.

Impact Downs led the Colts in receiving yards while checking in second in receptions and receiving yards to Michael Pittman. Downs' catch total was also a season high, and the speedy rookie now has at least five receptions in four consecutive games. Given his impressive body of work, Downs will likely be heavily involved once again in a Week 9 road battle against the Panthers.

Gardner Minshew - Mediocre numbers in loss Minshew completed 23 of 41 passes for 213 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Colts' 38-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday. He also rushed once for three yards.

Impact Minshew put together an inefficient day overall that highlighted some of his shortcomings as a passer. Minshew did keep the Colts in the game for the majority of the afternoon and connected with Michael Pittman and Drew Ogletree for scoring passes of 10 and 33 yards, respectively, for the quarterback's second straight multi-touchdown effort, but he also threw an interception for the third consecutive contest. Minshew's first opportunity to bounce back comes in a Week 9 road battle against the Panthers.

Michael Pittman Jr. - Busy day in Week 8 loss Pittman brought in eight of 13 targets for 40 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' 38-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday.

Impact Pittman was in the familiar position of leading the Colts in receptions and targets, although his five yards per catch qualified as a season-low figure. Pittman also recorded his second touchdown in as many games when he found the end zone from 10 yards out in the first quarter, and he's now logged double-digit targets on five occasions thus far. Pittman should remain similarly busy in a Week 9 road battle against the Panthers.

Zack Moss - Continues producing in loss Moss rushed 11 times for 66 yards and a touchdown and brought in his only target for eight yards in the Colts' 38-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday.

Impact Moss logged only one fewer carry than Jonathan Taylor, and both backs surprisingly found plenty of running room against the Saints' typically stout defense. Moss also scored his fourth touchdown in the last three games on a one-yard rush in the second quarter, making it a highly efficient afternoon. Moss figures to continue operating in a nearly even timeshare with Taylor on the road in a favorable matchup against the Panthers in Week 9.

Jonathan Taylor - Another encouraging effort in loss Taylor rushed 12 times for 95 yards and brought in one of two targets for two yards in the Colts' 38-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday.

Impact Taylor put together an impressive performance on the ground for the second straight week, but he notably logged just one more carry than backfield mate Zack Moss, who also recorded the Colts' only rushing touchdown. Taylor also only had one carry in the second half. Taylor appears to be explosive following his offseason ankle surgery, but with Moss also remaining effective and a similarly proficient pass catcher, it appears the duo will continue to operate in a fairly even timeshare for the foreseeable future. Taylor draws a favorable matchup in Week 9 on the road against the vulnerable Panthers run defense.

Impact Franklin was up to four tackles on the day before leaving the game. He went to the medical tent before going back to the locker room. Tony Brown has taken over at cornerback in Franklin's absence.

Eric Johnson II - No go for Week 8 Johnson (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Saints.

Impact Johnson was able to work up to being a full participant at practice this week, but the ankle injury he suffered in Week 7 against Cleveland will now sideline him for at least one contest. In his absence, Adetomiwa Adebawore will be among those who see an increase in workload on the defensive line.

Impact Listed as questionable heading into Sunday and considered a game-time decision leading up to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff, Moss has received the green light to suit up after coming out of a pregame warmup no worse for wear. Though he has handled snap shares ranging between 49 and 80 percent in each of the Colts' three games since Jonathan Taylor made his season debut Week 5, Moss could take more of a back seat to Indianapolis' top back while the former plays Sunday at less than 100 percent health.
