Getting reps at MLB Davis played a lot of middle linebacker during Wednesday's practice, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Impact With Jon Bostic comfortable playing either MLB or weak-side 'backer, Washington figures to give its first-round pick a look in both spots. Davis was a late bloomer at Kentucky, but he had 103 tackles and three interceptions his senior season, before putting up a 4.47 40-yard dash and 42-inch vertical jump at his pro day. He instantly becomes one of the most athletic linebackers in the NFL, joining a defense that was already among the most talented in the league. That doesn't necessarily mean Davis will handle a three-down role or even a starting job, but he at least has a shot to earn it, working with the first-team defense right out of the gate. Coach Ron Rivera even mentioned Davis when he was asked about players who impressed him with retention of what they learned during the offseason program.

Heading to Nation's Capital The Washington Football team selected Davis in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, 19th overall.

Impact The Football Team gets even faster in the front seven with the addition of Davis out of Kentucky. Davis put down a 4.47 in the 40 at his pro day and tacked on a 42-inch vertical and 132-inch broad jump, both of which were the best among linebackers in this year's class. It took him a while to carve out a role at Kentucky, but he turned in a strong senior season as a starter with 102 tackles and three interceptions. He's undersized as an inside linebacker, checking in at just 234 pounds. Davis also will need to prove himself in coverage. That said, he's a high-upside player that can be a difference-maker in Ron Rivera's scheme.
