Impact He'll bolster a Jets' wideout corps that will be without Breshad Perriman (ankle) and Denzel Mims (hamstring) this week. The team also has a couple of players who head into Thursday night banged up, in Jamison Crowder (hamstring) and Chris Hogan (ribs). It remains to be seen how heavily Smith will be used in his return to action, but he has a chance to be involved in the offense right away, considering all the injuries the Jets are dealing with.

Coming off IR soon Coach Adam Gase said Smith (shoulder) will practice Tuesday and should come off injured reserve soon, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
Impact Smith's return to practice opens up a 21-day window for the Jets to reinstate him from injured reserve and add him to the active roster. Based on Gase's comments, Smith could be an option to return from IR as soon as Thursday's game versus the Broncos. The Jets' pass catchers are still banged up, as Breshad Perriman (ankle) is already ruled out, and Jamison Crowder and Chris Hogan (ribs) still haven't logged full practices. If both Perriman and Crowder are sidelined Thursday, Smith could be in store for a decent amount of snaps if he ends up being activated ahead of the contest.

Impact Smith received good news from an MRI in late August, but the Jets will give him additional time to recover, as the wideout isn't eligible to return until Week 4. The team's receiver corps is riddled with injuries, but at this time, Jamison Crowder (lower leg), Breshad Perriman (knee) and Denzel Mims (hamstring) are all projected to start in three-wide sets to begin the year.

Suffers shoulder injury Smith left Saturday's practice with a shoulder injury, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Impact Smith is largely unknown after going undrafted in 2019 out of Boston College, where he played quarterback, but he's among the Jets' most explosive athletes (4.36 40, 127-inch broad jump) and could emerge at some point if his wide receiver skill set develops. An absence of any duration would make it more difficult for Smith to do that, unfortunately. As a practice squad call-up in Week 15 of 2019, Smith caught one of two targets for 14 yards on 14 snaps against Baltimore before suffering a season-ending high ankle sprain.
