Impact Wolford remains the projected backup to No. 1 quarterback Matthew Stafford heading into the 2021 season. It's encouraging to hear Wolford has quickly recovered from the appendectomy he underwent earlier this month, and he ran all of the second-team reps during practice Monday. While there probably isn't a lot of current fantasy upside with the third-year signal caller in most settings, McVay has shown confidence in Wolford in the past because of his dual-threat potential.

Impact Wolford woke up with discomfort Friday morning and underwent surgery once its nature was determined. Based off his return timetable, he won't get any preseason action until Saturday, Aug. 21, at the earliest. It's more likely that if he does, though, it'll happen in the Rams' exhibition finale Saturday, Aug. 28 at Denver. When healthy, Wolford serves as L.A.'s No. 2 QB behind Matthew Stafford, but his absence will allow Bryce Perkins and Devlin Hodges to get more reps with the reserves.

Nevertheless, just three days after that report, the Rams acquired Matthew Stafford from the Lions for Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick. There won't be a competition for the starting job anymore, but Wolford has likely locked up the backup gig.

Impact Wolford got the nod at quarterback this past Saturday at Seattle with Jared Goff just 12 days removed from surgery on a dislocated right thumb. However, Wolford didn't last long, taking a hit on the helmet from Jamal Adams that eventually led to a visit to the hospital as a precaution. On Sunday, Wolford was diagnosed with a stinger and called day-to-day by McVay, according to Stu Jackson of the Ram's official site. While Wolford was held out of Tuesday's walk-through, Goff was a full participant following his 155-yard, one touchdown performance against the Seahawks. Still, McVay has yet to make a call on L.A.'s starting QB for Saturday's divisional-round game in Green Bay.
