Impact Akins continued his strong play at the tight end position and appears to bonded with quarterback Davis Mills. Joining active roster The Texan will sign Akins off the practice squad to their 53-man roster Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Impact Akins, who has been active for three games this season, has recorded seven catches on eight targets for 86 yards and a touchdown in that span. With Brevin Jordan's (ankle) availability still up in the air for when the Texans return to action Week 7, Akins will give the team added tight end depth to go along with O.J. Howard.

Impact Akins was activated for the third game in a row with starting tight end Brevin Jordan (ankle) out again during Sunday's win over the Jaguars. While the 30-year-old tight end hauled in both of his targets for 22 yards, he saw his lowest playing time of the season -- 10 of Houston's 58 offensive snaps -- while filling in behind O.J. Howard (46 snaps) and Mason Schreck (24 snaps). Akins will now require a permanent spot on the active roster in order to suit up for the Texans again in 2022.

Impact Akins played just 12 snaps but once again made an impact for Houston. He was on the receiving end of a 3rd-and-10 catch-and-run that moved the chains on the Texans' game-deciding drive in the fourth quarter. This was the third time that Akins was elevated from the practice squad, and Houston will need to sign him if it wants him to continue to play. That should be a no-brainer for a couple of reasons. He's the most consistent receiving threat at tight end -- leading the room with 86 yards -- and the club released Pharaoh Brown (now with Cleveland).

Elevated to active roster The Texans elevated Akins on Saturday from their practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's matchup against the Jaguars, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Impact With Brevin Jordan (ankle) still out, Akins will join the active roster for a third consecutive contest. Over his previous two appearances, the fifth-year tight end has caught five of six targets for 64 yards and a touchdown while playing 35 total offensive snaps. He figures to garner a similar role against Jacksonville in Week 5, but he'll be out of elevations following the contest, which means he'll have to be signed to the active roster if he's going to make any more appearances for Houston this season.
