In Week 1 against the Dolphins, he played 58 percent of the offensive snaps en route to five catches (on seven targets) for 57 yards and a 23-yard carry. Friday's injury report will reveal Edelman's status heading into the weekend.

Impact The Patriots held Edelman back in the first two practices of Week 1 before removing him from the injury report entirely Friday. He proceeded to play 58 percent of the snaps on in Sunday's win over the Dolphins, which led to five catches (on seven targets) for 57 yards and one carry for 23 yards. The 80 yards from scrimmage was something Edelman accomplished seven times in 17 games (including playoffs) last season, while he had at least five receptions on 12 occasions. As a result, he's more reliable in PPR formats, especially as he continues to develop a rapport with Cam Newton.

Impact Edelman was the leading receiver in a quiet but efficient performance for the Patriots' passing attack, but the ground game stole the show, as Cam Newton rushed for two touchdowns and Sony Michel added a third. While the slot receiver offers a high floor as Cam Newton's most reliable target, the Patriots should rank near the bottom of the league in passing volume if this game was any indication; Newton logged only 19 passing attempts, completing 15 of them. Edelman will face the Seahawks in Week 2.

Impact Edelman was limited at practice Wednesday and Thursday, a trend toward managing his reps that could become a pattern, but the Patriots' top pass catcher was never in danger of missing Sunday's season opener against the Dolphins. The 34-year-old racked up a career-high 1,117 receiving yards last season on 100 catches to go along with six TDs. He did that with Tom Brady at QB and will now have to adjust to catching passes from Cam Newton. To date, the two appear to have solid on-field chemistry, but some sort of statistical regression is plausible. Edelman does, however, remain a vital cog in the New England offense and thus should maintain steady weekly volume.
