Impact Kansas City waived Keontay Ingram to open up a spot on the roster for Hunt, who joins Carson Steele and Samaje Perine as options at running back while Isiah Pacheco (fibula) resides on injured reserve. In their first game without Pacheco in Sunday's 22-17 win over the Falcons, Steele led the way with 46 snaps on offense and 18 touches (17 carries for 72 yards, one reception for two yards), while Perine played 26 snaps and logged nine touches (six carries for 25 yards, three receptions for 15 yards). Given those performances, Hunt may not immediately jump ahead of either Steele or Perine in the pecking order out of the backfield during Sunday's game against the Chargers, but he'll at least represent a more viable threat for playing time than Ingram.

Impact After meeting with the Chiefs on Tuesday, Hunt quickly came to an agreement on a deal. Though he'll begin his second stint in the organization as a member of the practice squad, Hunt could be elevated to the active roster for this Sunday's game in Atlanta with Kansas City in need of backfield depth with lead option Isiah Pacheco (fibula) headed for a multi-week absence. Rookie Carson Steele appears to be first in line for carries, and Samaje Perine is an experienced option on passing downs, but Hunt could eventually work his way up the depth chart if he's able to quickly familiarize himself with head coach Andy Reid's playbook. Though he accounted for more than 1,200 yards from scrimmage with the Chiefs in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons before he was released in November 2018, the 29-year-old looked well removed from his prime during his time with Cleveland last season. While appearing in 15 games for the Browns in 2023, Hunt averaged career-low marks in yards per carry (3.0) and yards per reception (5.6).

Impact During the 2023 season, Hunt logged 135 carries for 411 yards and nine TDs, while adding 15 catches for 84 yards in 15 games with Cleveland. While top back, Nick Chubb continues to work his way back from a knee injury, D'Onta Foremanand Nyheim Hines (knee) were added this offseason to bolster a Cleveland backfield that also includes returnees Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong. Meanwhile, Hunt -- who is presumably past a sports hernia procedure -- remains without a team, though in June he indicated that he planned to remain patient on that front, noting that he'd be ready for his next opportunity come training camp.
