Undergoes sports hernia surgery Hunt underwent sports hernia surgery Tuesday to repaire a ruptured adductor, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Hunt joined the Browns in Week 3 after Nick Chubb (knee) suffered a season ending injury. The veteran back then spent much of the season as a regular on the injury report due to a groin issue, which resulted in this surgery making more sense. The 28-year-old was primarily used in the red zone and finished the season with 495 total yards to go along with a career-high nine touchdowns.

Impact Hunt has received the green light to play in the Browns' regular-season finale after he gradually increased his practice activity throughout the week, going from no activity Wednesday to limited participation Thursday before taking every rep during Friday's session. He's typically served as Option 1B out of the backfield behind Jerome Ford since signing with the Browns in September, but Hunt and third-stringer Pierre Strong could both be in store for more work than usual in Week 18. The Browns are locked into the AFC's No. 5 seed in the playoffs regardless of the outcome of Week 18 games, and to that end, the team is expected to rest several key starters. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has already confirmed that quarterback Joe Flacco won't play in Cincinnati, and Ford could also be among the players who handles little or no snaps Sunday with an eye on maintaining health heading into the postseason.

Impact Hunt logged only two fewer carries than backfield mate Jerome Ford, but he was far less efficient than the latter while posting just less than half the rushing yards. However, Hunt was the only one of the two to get into the end zone, cashing in via a seven-yard run in the first quarter. Hunt's carry total was his first of the double-digit variety in the last three games, but it remains to be seen how much usage he'll log in a Week 18 regular-season finale against the Bengals on Jan. 7.
