J.K. Dobbins - Over century mark in total yards Dobbins carried the ball 25 times for 96 yards and a touchdown in the 23-16 win over the Broncos on Sunday. He also caught both of his targets for six yards.
Impact Dobbins was effectively held in check as he averaged under four yards a carry, but quarterback Justin Herbert was brilliant in the first half helping the offense expand a three-score lead that seemed insurmountable Sunday. Perhaps more importantly, Dobbins easily set a season high in carries, in part because of the game script, but this was also the first game without Gus Edwards (ankle), who was placed on injured reserve Saturday. Rookie Kimani Vidal will likely get more involved as the weeks progress (four carries 11 yards plus two catches for 40 yards and a touchdown), but Dobbins appears to have a significant lock on the backfield at the moment.

Impact Herbert has had significantly better statistical days, but make no mistake, Sunday was one of the best outings of his career. Despite facing a Broncos secondary that had rightfully earned the reputation as one of the best in the league, the Pro Bowl signal caller was flinging it all around the field throughout the first half while dropping dimes against single coverage and throwing frozen ropes on 15-yard first-down darts. It was even more impressive given Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey both left at various points in the first half, although his top two targets did return during the contest. Herbert tallied a season-high 184 yards in the first half, and with the Chargers up three scores until the fourth quarter, the offense was content sitting on the ball over the course of the final 30 minutes. The 26-year-old could be poised to build off this performance against a Cardinals defense that allowed four passing touchdowns against the Packers in Week 6.

However, the star pass rusher returned to practice Friday as a limited participant, suggesting he'll have a good chance of suiting up for Monday Night Football during Week 7. In Bosa's absence, Bud Dupree and Tuli Tuipulotu remain candidates for increased snaps.

Impact Now that Edwards is slated to miss at least four contests, Vidal -- who's been inactive for the Chargers' first four outings thus far -- is poised to enter the team's backfield mix Sunday, alongside Hassan Haskins and top back J.K. Dobbins. It remains to be seen how much work Vidal sees in his looming NFL regular-season debut, but with Edwards sidelined and Dobbins' injury history in mind, the 2024 sixth-rounder is worthy of roster consideration for those with the flexibility to add him to see how Los Angeles' RB situation unfolds in the coming weeks.
