Impact Parham thus far has been one of the early standouts through training camp, flashing his athleticism after the catch while also improving as a blocker. The latter will be the key to additional reps for Parham considering the Chargers figure to use veteran tight end Jared Cook almost exclusively as a receiving threat. The 6-foot-8 former XFL tight end already was considered a favorite red-zone threat of quarterback Justin Herbert's, so any sort of additional playing time should only benefit Parham given the obvious rapport with his star QB.

Joshua Kelley - Falling on depth chart Kelley is listed behind both Justin Jackson and Larry Rountree on the team's first official depth chart release, Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact It's a pretty jarring statement considering the Chargers drafted Kelley in the fourth round just one year ago, but it reflects what occurred towards the end of 2020 when the rookie was a healthy scratch in two of the final four games. Rountree often has been mentioned as a legitimate short-yardage threat, giving the 2021 sixth-round pick a more defined role than Kelley and adding yet another strike against the latter's quest towards retaining a roster spot. At this point, Kelley might need an excellent preseason in order to claim a spot on the active roster, much less the coveted backup role behind stalwart Austin Ekeler.

Impact This isn't a complete surprise given the type of language coming out of training camp thus far, but it's certainly worth noting given many assumed 2020 fourth-round pick Joshua Kelley would be a shoo-in for the role. The competition between Kelley and Jackson still remains one of the team's top positional battles throughout the preseason, but it certainly appears as if the latter has made a sizable impression with the coaching staff to date.
