Marquez Callaway talks 1st Preseason Game ' Saints Training Camp 2021

Hot start in preseason opener Callaway caught three of four targets for 61 yards in Saturday's 17-14 preseason loss to the Ravens.

Impact Callaway has been the favorite practice target for both Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston, and his rapport with the former was evident on the opening drive, when Callaway caught all three of his targets for 61 yards. His only other target over the next two possessions resulted in an incomplete pass, though. With Michael Thomas (ankle) and Tre'Quan Smith (undisclosed) both sidelined by injuries, Callaway has established himself as the Saints' top healthy receiver, and he could retain that title over Smith for the duration of Thomas' absence, which is expected to last well into the regular season. Callaway will look to strengthen his case in Week 2 of preseason against Jacksonville.

Impact With Michael Thomas (ankle) and Tre'Quan Smith (undisclosed) sidelined while Deonte Harris faces a possible suspension for off-field conduct, Callaway seems to have a solid chance to open the regular season as the team's clear top receiver. Not only has he reportedly caught more passes than any other wideout during training camp, but Callaway is "by far" the go-to option for quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill.
