Kellen Mond - Two TD passes in preseason opener Mond was 9-of-14 passing for 119 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's preseason loss at Las Vegas. He also had three carries for seven yards.
Impact Round 1 of the battle for the backup quarterback job went to Mond, who outplayed Sean Mannion (8-of-12 passing for 79 yards and no touchdowns). However, Mannion played in the first half and Mond played against lesser competition in the second half. The battle for the backup role likely will continue through the preseason. Mond improved significantly from last year, when he looked lost at times during the preseason.

Albert Wilson - Catches two TDs in preseason opener Wilson had two receptions for 22 yards and two touchdowns on two targets in Sunday's loss at Las Vegas.
Impact Wilson had both of his touchdown passes in the second half against the second- and third-team defense, so don't get too excited. He's battling for a reserve receiver role and is likely behind Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Bisi Johnson and possibly sixth-round rookie Jalen Nailor at this point for the No. 4 and No. 5 receiver roles.

Dan Chisena - Suffers leg injury Chisena, who'd been dealing with a lower leg injury during training camp, sustained a similar injury in Sunday's preseason loss at Las Vegas, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports....
Impact Chisena is a key player on special teams, especially punt coverage. Chisena appeared in 11 games last year, playing all his snaps on special teams. He's a long shot to win any role on offense.

Ty Chandler - Strong preseason debut Chandler rushed five times for 50 yards in Sunday's 26-20 preseason loss to the Raiders.
Impact Chandler made an impressive debut by tearing through the Raiders' backup defense (key starters were healthy scratches). The results are impressive nonetheless, as the rookie fifth-rounder posted an productive final season at North Carolina in 2021 (182 carries for 1,092 yards and 13 touchdowns). The Vikings have one of the more stacked running back rooms in the league, so Chandler could find himself on the practice squad to begin the season if he can't leapfrog Kene Nwangwu, who also stood out Sunday. Both young backs will get another chance to compete when Minnesota takes on the 49ers on Saturday.

Kene Nwangwu - Looks healthy Sunday Nwangwu (leg) rushed seven times for 41 yards and caught both of his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 26-20 preseason loss to the Raiders.
Impact Nwangwu looked crisp in his return from a minor soft-tissue injury to his leg, flashing the explosiveness that he displayed as a rookie returner last season (two kick-return touchdowns). The 24-year-old figures to have a lock on the kickoff return job in Minnesota, but he has carried over his excellent YPC totals -- albeit in smaller sample sizes -- from his time at Iowa State (5.9 YPC in his final two seasons). Nwangwu probably won't see enough playing time with the talented one-two combo of Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison ahead of him on the Vikings' running back depth chart, but there appears to be potential future fantasy goodness within this young athlete, should the opportunity arise for him to see enough touches on a per-week basis at some point this year (or with another club in the future). As for 2022, Nwangwu will have to fend off Ty Chandler (five carries for 50 yards Sunday) to keep his spot at third on the depth chart heading into the regular season.

Impact Mannion split reps with Kellen Mond (as expected), but it was the latter who was able to post the gaudier stat line (119 yards and two touchdowns), albeit against the Raiders' backup defenders in the second half of the exhibition. This is still undoubtedly Kirk Cousins' team, so Mannion and Mond will compete for who will be the veteran's backup in the coming weeks.

Impact Cook was just being rested for the preseason game, so fantasy managers don't need to read too much into Mattison starting this contest.
