To start Friday Anderson is expected to start Friday's preseason contest against the Steelers, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Impact It's unclear if Anderson will get as much playing time as starting quarterback Sam Darnold, but the pair was out there almost the exact amount of snaps (six versus seven, respectively, on offense) in preseason Week 2, so they may get up to two quarters of action. Anderson is fresh off signing a two-year, $29.5 million extension earlier this week, so the Panthers may not want to risk it too much considering the recent investment.

Signs two-year extension Anderson is signing a two-year, $29.5 million extension with the Panthers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Anderson signed a two-year, $20 contract last spring and responded with his first 1,000-yard season. The Panthers still have plenty of weaknesses, but wide receiver should be an annual strength with Anderson, DJ Moore and Terrace Marshall all under team control through 2023. It remains to be seen if QB Sam Darnold and OC Joe Brady are able to keep all three receivers well fed in an offense that also has volume hog Christian McCaffrey and a potential TE upgrade in Dan Arnold.

Impact Anderson's catch was the only completion for starting quarterback Sam Darnold, who Anderson previously worked well with while playing for the Jets. Impact The wideout was an observer at Wednesday's practice after suffering the injury late last week. The Panthers held key starters out of their preseason opener, and while many of those players figure to suit up this Saturday against Baltimore, it's possible Anderson won't be one of them. However, coach Matt Rhule didn't sound worried about a long-term absence.

Impact The wideout reportedly tweaked something in a joint practice with the Colts last Friday. He then missed Sunday's preseason game against the Colts, though he presumably wouldn't have played even if he'd been healthy, given that Sam Darnold, DJ Moore and other key starters were held out. In any case, Anderson could also miss Carolina's second preseason game this Sunday against Baltimore, but it doesn't sound like his injury is serious. He was present at Wednesday's practice, wearing a helmet but no pads.

Unlikely to suit up Sunday Anderson likely will be a DNP for Sunday's preseason game at Indianapolis, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Impact Coach Matt Rhule plans to sit most of the starters but specifically said only Sam Darnold by name. However, Rhule's list likely includes Anderson, DJ Moore and Christian McCaffrey as well. Anderson has been on the receiving end of passes from Darnold in the past when they were teammates on the Jets. The wide receiver fared modestly, putting up very similar stat lines in both 2018 (50-752-6 on 94 targets) and 2019 (52-779-5 on 96 targets). After moving on to Carolina in the 2020 offseason, he broke out with 95 catches for 1,096 yards and three scores working primarily with the departed Teddy Bridgewater, so the Panthers likely hope familiarity with Darnold will help Anderson carry over that success into the coming campaign.
