Darnold's long-, short-term future with Panthers in doubt

The Panthers traded away three draft picks for Sam Darnold with the idea they could resurrect his career and he could develop into the franchise’s long-term answer at quarterback

Impact Anderson was once again a virtual non-factor after putting up a goose egg last Sunday. Although no wideout other than DJ Moore caught more than one pass amid quarterback Sam Darnold's continued struggles, Anderson has now gone four straight games without topping 15 receiving yards. Such little recent production makes it hard to expect much from Anderson in Week 10 versus the Cardinals.

Impact Anderson was rocked on his lone target, leaving him down on the field afterward. Although the wideout returned to Sunday's contest, he wasn't involved in the passing game beyond that play. His goose egg added to what's been a very disappointing campaign, as Anderson has topped 50 yards just once through eight outings. With merely 25 yards over his last three appearances, he's not an attractive option ahead of Week 9's matchup versus the Patriots.

TD saves quiet day Anderson had three receptions (11 targets) for 11 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-28 overtime loss to the Vikings.

Impact Sam Darnold struggled tremendously in this one, completing just 41 percent of his pass attempts, which helps explain the abysmal catch rate Anderson turned in. The touchdown helped salvage what would have been a horrible fantasy performance from the 28-year-old wideout. It has been a disappointing campaign for Anderson, who has struggled to find any sort of success since Darnold took over. A favorable matchup against the Giants is on tap next Sunday, but Anderson's early-season struggles makes him a hard player to rely upon.

Impact Anderson had a 25-yard gain on Carolina's last offensive drive, but he then saw quarterback Sam Darnold intercepted while targeting him on the next play. Overall, it proved too little, too late for Anderson, who has disappointed to start this season. Through five games, he's averaging just over 35 yards per contest and boasts merely 12 catches and one touchdown. Although it'd be surprising if Anderson -- who led the Panthers with 95 receptions for 1,096 yards last season -- didn't breakthrough before long, his very slow start dampens his outlook in Week 6 versus the Vikings.
