Talanoa Hufanga - Out for Week 17 Hufanga (knee) is inactive Sunday against the Texans, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
Impact Hufanga is out for the second consecutive game due to a knee injury after failing to practice in any capacity during the week. Jaquiski Tartt will be locked into a big role at strong safety with Tavon Wilson (foot) also sidelined.

Trey Lance - Starting for Garoppolo Lance will start for an inactive Jimmy Garoppolo (thumb) in Sunday's contest against the Texans, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
Impact Garoppolo entered the weekend as doubtful to play through the sprained and fractured thumb that he sustained Week 16 at Tennessee. His absence paves the way for Lance to earn his second career start and make his sixth appearance overall. In the previous five, he was spotty as a passer, completing 25 of 48 passes for 354 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. But he made up for it with his legs, turning 30 carries into 137 yards and one more score. Lance will have a chance to produce versus Houston's 19th-ranked pass defense (239.7 yards per game).

Jimmy Garoppolo - Takes seat in Week 17 Garoppolo (thumb) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Texans, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
Impact Since emerging from a Week 16 loss at Tennessee with a Grade 3 UCL sprain and fracture in his right thumb, Garoppolo hasn't thrown, let alone practiced in any capacity. Having said that, the 49ers are hopeful he'll recover enough to be available for a key Week 18 road matchup with the Rams. While he takes a seat for the second time this season, Garoppolo will hand over the offense to rookie first-round pick Trey Lance, who has racked up 354 yards through the air, 137 more yards on the ground and four total touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) in five games, including a spot start Week 5.

Elijah Mitchell - Returning to action Sunday Mitchell (knee) is active for Sunday's game versus the Texans, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
Impact Making his first appearance since Week 13, Mitchell may have some conditioning issues considering he dealt with a concussion and a knee injury during that stretch. Still, he's been the most effective 49ers running back by a long shot this season, averaging 4.6 yards on his 165 carries, reeling in 17 of 18 targets for 126 yards and scoring five touchdowns on the ground in nine appearances. Fellow RB Jeff Wilson ran for 4.4 yards per rush during Mitchell's three-game absence, so Mitchell could yield some reps to the former if he's not yet in top form.
