Brandon Aiyuk - Could Land in Cleveland or New England The 49ers have a framework in place to trade Aiyuk to the Patriots or Browns if he can agree to a contract with either team, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Impact The two teams reportedly are wiling to meet San Francisco's trade demands but haven't yet met Aiyuk's contract demands. Both agreements presumably need to be hammered out before a trade is completed, with Jets edge rush Haason Reddick providing a cautionary example about trading for a player that's in a contract year and seeking a new deal (Reddick still has reported to training camp). Previous reports suggested the 49ers would be more willing to trade Aiyuk if they get a veteran wideout as part of the return, with Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer suggesting Browns WR Amari Cooper could be involved. Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne (knee) is also oft-mentioned, in part because he spent the first four seasons of his career with the 49ers (2018-20). A trade involving Bourne rather than Cooper presumably would entail far more draft compensation, as the former is a far lesser player and still working his way back from the ACL tear he suffered Oct. 29 last season.

Matt Breida - Back in San Francisco Brieda has agreed to a deal with the 49ers, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Breida spent his first three seasons in San Francisco before venturing onto stints in Miami, Buffalo and New York with the Giants. His most productive years were his first three with the 49ers, and he will now look for another opportunity to showcase his talents in the Bay Area. Isaac Guerendo (hamstring) was selected by the team in the fourth round of this year's draft and was expected to back up Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell in the backfield, but he is now expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks. As a result, Breida will compete with the likes of Jordan Mason, Patrick Taylor and Cody Schrader for a depth running back role heading into the season.

Pat Elflein - Placed on injured reserve The 49ers placed Elflein (calf) on injured reserve Monday.

Impact Elflein had just signed with the team last week to provide depth along the offensive line before injuring his calf in practice. The 2017 third-round pick will now be out for the entirety of the season unless San Francisco waives him with an injury settlement.

Maiocco mentions the Browns (and Amari Cooper) as a possible exception, along with the Patriots (and Kendrick Bourne), though the latter wouldn't come anywhere close to making up for the loss of Aiyuk. For now, Aiyuk remains a "hold in" at 49ers training camp, limited to attending meetings and watching practices. Contract negotiations are ongoing, as has seemingly been the case for much of spring and summer.

Impact The injury doesn't appear to be a serious concern for Banks, though it's cost him multiple days of practice. Impact The 49ers have dealt with multiple injuries to their offensive line in training camp, so Elflein was brought in as veteran depth. However, he wasn't able to make it through individual drills, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said after practice that Elflein pulled his calf. It's not clear how much time the 30-year-old will miss, but San Francisco may now need to bring in another player to reinforce their lineman corps.

Impact Thomas was signed to San Francisco back in early June after playing out the last four seasons with Washington. The severity of the tight end's hamstring problem has not been disclosed but more information should be released in the coming weeks if not days.

Impact Jennings worked off to the side at Friday's practice. It doesn't sound like a serious issue for the veteran wideout. Jennings has been a fixture in three-wide sets for the 49ers over the last few seasons, but he hasn't been a big target-earner as the fifth option in the offense. Jennings' biggest competition for playing time in 2024 will be first-round rookie Ricky Pearsall.

Elijah Mitchell - Facing challenge for backup role Jordan Mason may challenge Mitchell for the No. 2 RB role, Jordan Elliott of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Impact Mitchell was still viewed as the clear No. 2 running back as recently as minicamp in June, but Mason's continued development may be complicating things. San Francisco's strong backfield depth behind Christian McCaffrey could even make Mitchell a trade target heading into the final year of his rookie contract, although the 49ers would probably feel better about that if fourth-round pick Isaac Guerendo was practicing rather than nursing a hamstring injury. Mitchell still makes sense as a late-round pick in fantasy drafts, as it's hard to know if the camp hype surrounding Mason really matters relative to Mitchell's solid track record when tasked with a lead role. There's even potential for Mitchell's value to rise considerably between now and Week 1, either via a trade or a McCaffrey injury.
