Fooled Everyone Except Raanta's Glove 👏

Brady Skjei - Two-point effort TuesdaySkjei scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Sabres.
ImpactThe blueliner gave Carolina a 2-1 lead in the third period, then after Buffalo had tied it back up, Skjei helped set up Martin Necas for the game-winner. Skjei is off to a flying start to the season despite a lack of power-play time, and through 13 games he's piled up two goals and 10 points along with a plus-7 rating.

Sebastian Aho - Two helpers against BuffaloAho picked up two assists in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Sabres.
ImpactAfter recording a helper on Brady Skjei's third-period tally, Aho found Martin Necas wide open in front of the Buffalo net for a tip-in goal 90 seconds into OT. Aho has found the scoresheet in five of the last six games, and on the season he's racked up two goals and 10 points through 10 contests as he looks to return to the point-a-game pace he fell short of in 2022-23.

Tony DeAngelo - Collects first goal of seasonDeAngelo scored a power-play goal in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Sabres.
ImpactThe veteran blueliner opened the scoring midway through the first period, sailing a shot from the point past a screened Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. It was DeAngelo's first goal of the season, and the 28-year-old has had a slow start to the campaign in his return to Carolina, producing six points in 13 games with a minus-8 rating.

Antti Raanta - Sharp in OT winRaanta stopped 20 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Sabres.
ImpactWhile he didn't see a lot of volume, Raanta had to make some very tough saves just to get Carolina to OT and set the stage for another Martin Necas game-winner. Raanta has won four straight starts, allowing a total of seven goals on 81 shots during those outings, and the fact that the Hurricanes brought in Jaroslav Halak on a free-agent tryout earlier this week is a strong sign Frederik Andersen (illness) won't be back on the ice any time soon. As long as Raanta can stay healthy himself, the 34-year-old appears set for a fairly hefty workload, with youngster Pyotr Kochetkov -- just called back up from AHL Syracuse on Monday -- backing him up for now.

Rasmus Dahlin - Pots PP tally in OT lossDahlin scored a power-play goal on two shots while adding two blocked shots, two PIM, a hit and a plus-1 rating in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Hurricanes.
ImpactThe 23-year-old Norris Trophy candidate earned the Sabres a point with a slick third-period tally -- Dahlin passed the puck to himself off the boards as he crossed the Carolina blue line and weaved through three defenders, then went far side with a snapshot from the faceoff dot to beat Antti Raanta. Dahlin is up to three goals and 11 points through 13 games, and it's clear his 73-point eruption from 2022-23 was just scratching the surface of his offensive upside.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen - Falls to Canes in OTLuukkonen made 24 saves in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Hurricanes.
ImpactHe came up with some big stops to help get the Sabres to OT, but he had little chance on Martin Necas' game-winner 90 seconds into the extra frame. The 24-year-old netminder has a 3-2-1 record on the season with a mediocre 3.10 GAA and .899 save percentage, but while Devon Levi returned from his lower-body injury last week, it's still been Luukkonen between the pipes for three of the first four games in November.
