Mikko Rantanen - Involved in massive tradeRantanen was traded to the Hurricanes from the Avalanche via the Blackhawks in a three-way deal, Emily Kaplan of ESPN reports.
ImpactRantanen is the biggest player in the trade, but it's a blockbuster on multiple levels. The pending unrestricted free agent goes from riding alongside Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado to a spot alongside countryman Sebastian Aho in Carolina. Chicago was involved in the trade to retain 50 percent of Rantanen's cap hit to make the money work for the Hurricanes. Additional aspects of the trade will see Taylor Hall join Rantanen in Carolina, while Martin Necas and Jack Drury head to Colorado. The Blackhawks will also get their own third-round pick in 2025 back after dealing it away in a previous trade.

Jack Johnson - Rare multi-point effortJohnson provided two assists and two blocked shots in Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Hurricanes.
ImpactJohnson has played in the last three games, partially aided by the Blue Jackets' return to using seven defensemen. This was his first multi-point effort in nearly a year -- his last came Feb. 18, 2024 versus the Coyotes. The 38-year-old blueliner doubled his point total for this season with Thursday's effort. He's now at four assists, 16 shots on net, 25 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating over 30 appearances. When he plays, he fills a third-pairing role.
