Set to start Thursday Markstrom is expected to start in the home crease for Thursday's game against the Maple Leafs, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Impact Markstrom started in the Devils' Global Series matchup against Buffalo last Friday and turned aside 30 of 31 shots. He'll attempt to remain effective during Thursday's home opener. The 34-year-old posted a 23-23-2 record, 2.78 GAA and .905 save percentage over 48 appearances with Calgary last year.

Dominant in debut Markstrom stopped 30 of 31 shots faced in Friday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.

Impact Markstrom's lone slip-up was a power-play goal scored by Owen Power in the third period. Overall, it was a solid debut for the veteran backstop and puts him on the path to get back over the 30-win threshold for just the second time in his NHL career. With the two teams back at it Saturday, Jake Allen figures to get the starting nod while Markstrom should be in line to feature in the home opener versus Toronto on Oct. 10.

Defending cage versus Sabres Markstrom will tend the twine for Friday's Global Series matchup with Buffalo, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Impact Markstrom will make his Devils' debut after being acquired via trade from the Flames in the offseason. The veteran backstop failed to reach the 25-win mark in either of the previous two campaigns but is expected to significantly improve on those results with a stronger team around him in New Jersey. With Markstrom getting the nod Friday, it figures to be Jake Allen between the pipes for Saturday's clash with the Sabres.

Starting Wednesday Markstrom is expected to start at home in Wednesday's preseason game versus Washington, per Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.

Impact Markstrom stopped 17 of 19 shots in a 4-2 exhibition loss to the Islanders on Sunday. He logged 40 minutes in that game before Nico Daws came out for the third. Goaltender Jake Allen will be on the Devils' roster for the upcoming contest against the Capitals, but it's not known if the plan is to have Markstrom play the full game or eventually be substituted for Allen
