Alex Nedeljkovic will likely be back between the pipes Monday versus the Stars, but Blomqvist could start during a back-to-back next weekend, assuming Tristan Jarry isn't recalled from his conditioning loan prior to then.

Slated to start Friday Blomqvist is set to start on the road against Washington on Friday, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.

Impact Blomqvist is drawing a tough assignment. Washington is 9-3-0 and ranks fourth offensively with 4.08 goals per game. Blomqvist, who is making his first start since Oct. 29, has a 2-4-0 record, 3.47 GAA and .909 save percentage in six outings in 2024-25. He has lost his last three starts while allowing 12 goals on 127 shots (.906 save percentage) over that span.

Impact The Penguins raced to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but Minnesota responded with four unanswered goals to build an advantage they'd never relinquish. Blomqvist hasn't had a good start to the season and has been defeated in four of his last five appearances, going 1-4-0 with a 3.56 GAA in that span, although with a .909 save percentage. The Penguins' leaky defense has made it tough for any of the team's goalies to shine, though Blomqvist has often looked better than Tristan Jarry or Alex Nedeljkovic. Through five games, Blomqvist is 2-3-0 with 16 goals allowed on 180 shots. Nedeljkovic is likely to start Saturday in Vancouver, and Jarry could re-enter the mix next week, but none of Pittsburgh's goalies should be rostered on a full-time basis in most fantasy formats until the team in front of them improves significantly.

Impact Blomqvist will look to build off Wednesday's 26-save relief performance versus the Sabres in which he helped the Pens secure a come-from-behind overtime victory. To open the season, the 22-year-old backstop is 2-1-0 with a 2.86 GAA and .913 save percentage while significantly outplaying Tristan Jarry. At this point, Blomqvist could see the bulk of the workload until Alex Nedeljkovic (lower body) returns from a conditioning assignment.

Impact It's hard to fault Blomqvist on any of the goals. He was left high-and-dry on a two-on-none break, and William Nylander ripped it past him high early in the second period. Matthew Knies then beat him from the crease about two minutes later, and Mitch Marner ripped one past him on a breakaway early in the third. Blomqvist is currently backing up Tristan Jarry while Alex Nedeljkovic (lower body) is on the shelf. With Jarry struggling, Blomqvist could get another couple starts until Ned returns.
