Jake Allen - Gets starting nod Saturday Allen will defend the visiting crease in LA on Saturday, according to Arpon Basu of The Athletic.
Impact Allen has played only once in the Canadiens' last five games, giving up five goals on 44 shots in a 5-2 loss in Boston on Nov. 18. Overall, the 33-year-old netminder is 3-4-1 with a 3.54 GAA and .907 save percentage. The Kings are averaging 4.00 goals per game, second-best in the NHL.

Joel Armia - Recalled from Laval The Canadiens recalled Armia from AHL Laval on Friday.
Impact Armia will join the Canadiens in time for the team's Saturday afternoon game in Los Angeles against the Kings. In a corresponding move, Montreal placed Arber Xhekaj (upper body) on injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 16. Armia, who was recently loaned to Laval on Nov. 12, has six goals and three assists over eight games for the Rocket. He also has one goal in six outings for Montreal in 2023-24.

Arber Xhekaj - Added to IR The Canadiens retroactively placed Xhekaj (upper body) on injured reserve.
Impact The designation is retroactive to Xhekaj's last game Nov. 16 against Vegas, so he can be activated at any time. The blueliner did not travel with the team on its road trip, which is currently in California before finishing next Wednesday in Columbus. In a corresponding move, Montreal recalled Joel Armia from AHL Laval, and he will join the team for Saturday afternoon's tilt against the Kings.

Jesse Ylonen - Goes from bench to hero Ylonen had one shot on net and scored the winning tally in the shootout of Friday's 3-2 win over San Jose.
Impact Ylonen had just 7:16 of ice time and barley played in the third period -- two shifts, 1:13 TOI -- before the fourth-line forward ended matters with a beautiful deke of Mackenzie Blackwood. With Rafael Harvey-Pinard (lower body) expected to be sidelined for up to two months, Ylonen could get a chance to revive his season, which has featured seven healthy scratches.

Juraj Slafkovsky - Offensive surge continues Slafkovsky recorded an assist, three shots on goal and one blocked shot over 19:44 of ice time in Friday's 3-2 shootout win over the Sharks.
Impact After retrieving a rebound directed to the corner by goalie Cayden Primeau, Slafkovsky fed Cole Caufield then watched him go directly and beat Mackenzie Blackwood for the game-tying goal that set up overtime and the shootout. It was the fourth point (one goal, three assists) in the last five games for Slafkovsky, who was on the ice for both of Montreal's regulation tallies. Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis has exhibited patience with the 2022 first-overall pick, and it appears to be paying off.

Impact Struble played a second consecutive game since being called up from AHL Laval, filling in for the injured Jordan Harris (lower body). He assisted on Montreal's first goal, sliding a no-look pass to Johnny Kovacevic, who closed the gap to 2-1 late in the first period. While both Harris and Arber Xhekaj (upper body) are unavailable, Struble could continue to see on-ice opportunities.

Johnathan Kovacevic - Snipes another goal Kovacevic scored a goal on his lone shot over 11:10 ice time in Friday's 3-2 shootout win over the Sharks.
Impact Kovacevic accepted a deft dish from Jayden Struble, then the blueliner inched closer and closer while San Jose defenders held back before rifling a bullet over the right shoulder of Mackenzie Blackwood. It was the third goal in four games for Kovacevic, matching last season's tally count over 77 contests. Third-pair defensemen don't typically score on a fifth of their shots (20.0 SH%) -- particularly one who had a 3.3 SH% in his first full NHL season in 2022-23 -- so Kovacevic's offense is not expected to keep up.

Impact Mike Hoffman beat him at 5:06 of the second frame with a shot from the left hash marks following a feed from William Eklund from behind the Habs' net. And then Eklund wired a one-timer on the power play later that frame to push the Sharks up 2-0. Primeau has won twice in three starts in November, and he's showing glimpses of what he could become, as long as the Habs allow his development to simmer.

Cole Caufield - Snaps six-game goal drought Caufield scored a goal and added an assist in a 3-2 shootout win over the Sharks on Friday.
Impact Caufield ended a six-game goal drought with a third-period wrist shot from the right circle early in the third period of the game. It tied the game and ultimately forced overtime and the shootout. Caufield has just six goals this season, but he also has a whopping 80 shots. His 7.5 shooting percentage is well below his 12.9 career average, so expect the world to rebalance soon and his goal totals to go up.
