Joel Armia - Added to waivers Armia was placed on waivers by the Canadiens on Sunday.
Impact If he clears waivers, Armia would start the year with AHL Laval, where he'd likely be one of the first call-ups in the event of injury. The 30-year-old winger had seven goals and 14 points in 43 games with Montreal last season.

Juraj Slafkovsky - Notches goal in win Slafkovsky scored a goal on three shots and delivered three hits in Saturday's 6-4 preseason win over the Senators.
Impact Slafkovsky gave Montreal an early lead just 33 seconds into the game. The 19-year-old set a screen in front of Mads Sogaard, then buried his second preseason goal off the rebound. Montreal head coach Martin St. Louis got Slafkovsky into a team-high five preseason games with an objective he gets as many touches as possible. Kirby Dach has been a frequent partner, and the duo was joined by Alex Newhook on Saturday. The second-year forward will skate on the second line with Dach and another winger to be determined. St. Louis plans to give him consistent playing time and linemates, which could result in a much better sophomore season for Slafkovsky.

Sam Montembeault - Plays full game Saturday Montembeault stopped 21 of 25 shots in Saturday's 6-4 preseason win over Ottawa.
Impact It looked like Montembeault would take a loss after giving up three consecutive goals, including two in a span of 16 seconds in the third period, but the Canadiens save him with three goals later in the period. This was Montembeault's first full game played during the preseason. That it was Montreal's final tune-up before the regular season doesn't necessarily mean he'll be in the net Wednesday in Toronto. Neither he nor Jake Allen is a clear front-runner at this point.

Impact Harvey-Pinard looked at home on the first line and assisted on Cole Caufield's game-winning marker. The Canadiens rotated several bodies to skate with Caufield and Nick Suzuki during the preseason, and it's unclear if Harvey-Pinard will join them on the top line Wednesday when the regular season opens. Sean Monahan is another possibility for what could be Montreal's most productive threesome.

Alex Newhook - Set for preseason action Newhook (upper body) is expected to play in Saturday's preseason finale versus Ottawa.
Impact Newhook is slated to play alongside Kirby Dach and Juraj Slafkovsky on Saturday after sitting out Monday's 5-4 overtime win over the Maple Leafs. As a member of the Avalanche last season, the 22-year-old Newhook produced 14 goals and 30 points in 82 games. He should occupy a middle-six role with the Canadiens this campaign.

Impact Matheson, who had been hindered by a lower-body issue, will get a chance to play before Montreal takes on Toronto on Wednesday to begin the 2023-24 campaign. In 48 games last season. he registered eight goals, 34 points, 126 shots on net, 80 blocked shots and 53 hits. It could be a big year for the 29-year-old blueliner, as he is slated to play on the top defense pair and work on the first power-play unit.
