Montembeault stopped 31 of 34 shots in Thursday's 4-1 loss to Los Angeles.
Impact
Montembeault had a nice bounce-back effort Thursday after the Penguins tagged him for five goals in his previous start. He's started three of the first four games, sporing a 2.03 goals-against average and .933 save percentage. Montreal is next in action Saturday on the road against the Islanders.

Justin Barron - Scores on wraparound
Barron scored a goal on two shots, blocked one shot and delivered two hits in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Kings.
Impact
Barron gave Montreal an early lead when he scored on a wraparound shot, beating a slow-to-react David Rittich. It was the first point of the season for Barron, who showed some offensive proclivity in 2023-24, when he recorded 7-6-13 over 48 games.

Mike Matheson - Leaves Thursday's game
Matheson (upper body) won't return to Thursday's game versus the Kings.
Impact
Matheson's potential absence looms large over an inexperienced Montreal blue line. The 30-year-old defenseman didn't play after the first period of Thursday's game. If he can't suit up Saturday on the road versus the Islanders, Lane Hutson and Kaiden Guhle figure to take on larger roles while Jayden Struble would be the leading candidate to enter the lineup.
