Impact Cubas has continued as a starter alongside Alessandro Schopf and Julian Gressel in Vancouver's midfield to begin the 2023 campaign. Cubas' value comes more from the defensive end than it does from anything he does going forward.

Takes two shots in season finale Cubas took two shots on target and won six of eight tackles in the 2-0 Decision Day defeat against Minnesota United. He also made a block and two interceptions in the match.

Impact Cubas played well on both sides of the ball against Minnesota but it wasn't enough to earn a result that would have sent his side into the playoffs. The 26-year-old made an immediate impact upon joining Vancouver in April, starting in 17 of the club's final 20 matches of the season from defensive midfield and scoring his first MLS goal against LAFC in July.

Missing internationals with injury Cubas (groin) is staying in Vancouver this week rather than joining up with the Paraguay National Team while he recovers from an adductor strain, the Whitecaps announced Tuesday.

Impact Cubas was forced out of Sunday's win over Seattle in the 33rd minute with an adductor injury, and he is undergoing treatment with his club this week instead of linking up with his national team during this September international break. He will hope to be fit by the Whitecaps' next MLS clash against Austin FC on Oct. 1.

Cubas has the entirety of the international break to recover before the final two matches of the regular season.

Impact Cubas only missed one match with what appears to have been just a minor issue and put on a terrific defensive display in his return. He has one goal in his five starts and does get occasional looks forward but his strength is certainly in tackles and interceptions where he's mounted 13 in each of those two categories over his starting affairs.

Impact Cubas found the back of the net in the 89th minute scoring the lone goal of the match. The goal was the first of the season for the midfielder as he finished with team-high totals in interceptions and tackles in the victory.
