Koa Santos - Contract negotiations ongoing Santos is returning from a loan to the USL and Charlotte FC have until Nov. 14 to decide whether to exercise or decline his contract option for 2023.

Impact Santos made his MLS debut with a start against Montreal in June, his only appearance of the season in the competition. The 23-year-old was much more involved with the Charlotte Independence in USL, but his future with the senior club is still being decided on as he returns from loan.

Harrison Afful - Contract negotiations ongoing Charlotte FC have declined Afful's contract option for 2023, though the club remains in discussions with the player.

Impact Afful kept three clean sheets in 21 MLS appearances (15 starts) this season after signing with Charlotte in December, and he mostly took over the starting right-back spot from Jaylin Lindsey from the start of June onwards. The 36-year-old will become a free agent if no new contract deal is agreed upon by Jan. 1.

Impact Lindsey began his Charlotte career well as he was the first-choice right-back until the summer, but Harrison Afful mostly took over from the 22-year-old after June began. Lindsey will want to improve ahead of 2023 and compete with Nathan Byrne for the spot in the XI.

The 29-year-old never fully stood out ahead of Christian Fuchs and Harrison Afful at left-back, so he has work to do to secure a spot in the XI before he can be considered a starter in 2023.
