Impact Shelvey has likely been training the past week and he's well enough to get some minutes with the U23s Monday. It's a great sign for him and there's a decent chance he'll be available for Sunday's game against Tottenham, assuming he doesn't suffer a recurrence in the next few days. The question is what role he'll have in the squad with Sean Longstaff turning into a regular in Shelvey's absence.

What does make Shelvey useful in the right situation is his defensive work, as his 1.34 tackles and 1.24 interceptions per 90 minutes give him a mid-tier scoring floor in most matches. If the other attackers as well as Shelvey can manage to stay fit and in form for more than a couple of games at a time, Shelvey could make a serious splash as a two-way player if Miguel Almiron doesn't become the only playmaker for the Magpies.
