Impact Takaoka's second season came to an end with another disappointing loss to LAFC. It was a similar season to his first with Vancouver. He kept nine clean sheets and made 99 saves while conceding 50 times. That's essentially identical to his 2023 campaign, and establishes that Takaoka is still a solid, if uninspiring goalkeeper.

Impact Takaoka produced an incredible clean sheet Sunday in one of the most important matches of the season. The goalkeeper finished the regular season in uncertain form at best, but he's been on fire in the playoffs. He now will need to try and shut down LAFC yet again in the final match of the opening round.

Impact Takaoka conceded on either side of halftime, once from the penalty spot and once from open play. It's obviously a disappointing loss, though Takaoka was individually solid. The goalkeeper was always going to struggle against a side as good as LAFC, and will need to be at his best to force a third match in the opening round.

Impact Takaoka has now equaled last years total with eight clean sheets, and he did it this week against one of the best attacks in the league. Though now he faces LAFC in the next round, who ended at the top seed in the Western Conference and who have golden boot runner-up Denis Bouanga and World Cup winner Olivier Giroud leading the front, making it an extremely tough matchup.

Impact Takaoka couldn't do much in the first goal since he was helpless by Mateusz Bogusz's impressive finish, and he couldn't stop Ilie's perfectly-placed shot from outside the box in the 93nd minute, either. Takaoka has now gone six straight matches conceding at least once and has given up two or more goals in three of his last five appearances.

Impact Austin FC failed to log any shots on goal that went Takaoka's way, so the goalkeeper easily maintained a clean sheet, his fifth in 2024. The goalkeeper will look to continue his positive form against another Texas-based team, this time FC Dallas on Saturday.
