ImpactBrakefield began his collegiate career during 2020, the same year COVID-19 significantly affected college basketball's 2020-21 season. As a result, players like him were given an extra campaign of collegiate eligibility. Fast forward several years later, and he will use the additional season to finish his collegiate career during 2025 instead of 2024. The announcement is significant news for Mississippi should Brakefield re-enroll at Ole Miss, considering he is about to log his second consecutive season with averages of more than 10 points and five rebounds.

Matthew Murrell - Won't use extra eligibilityMurrell won't use his extra season of eligibility, meaning this will be his final season in college basketball, Jared Redding of 247Sports.com reports.
ImpactMurrell had an extra season of eligibility to use due to Covid-19, but has opted not to use it. The guard was a three-year starter for the Rebels, and is in the midst of a career season, averaging 17.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals. He's shooting with elite efficiency as well, hitting 47.1 percent of his shots from the field and 40.7 percent of his threes.
