Paces rushing game in CFP loss Edwards logged 23 carries for 119 yards and gathered in one of five targets for eight yards during Saturday's 51-45 loss against TCU. Impact Edwards looked like he would notch yet another long rushing touchdown when he broke off a 54-yard carry on the first play from scrimmage Saturday. However, he was brought down from behind at the 21-yard line by a TCU safety, allowing the Horned Frogs defense to come up with a fourth-down stop on the goal line seven plays later. The wheels then fell off for Edwards and the Wolverines, who were outscored 21-6 in the first half. This large early deficit caused Michigan to attempt an uncharacteristically high 35 passes, including one from Edwards that went for a one-yard loss. Linebacker-turned-fullback Kalel Mullings was the only other Michigan back to log a carry with his five rushes in short-yardage situations. Since the Wolverines' playoff run is now over, Edwards should be poised to retain the team's No. 1 running back spot heading into next season after Blake Corum (knee) presumably enters the 2023 NFL Draft.
