Impact Mensah was surprisingly named as the team's starting quarterback ahead of Thursday's contest, beating out last season's backup Kai Horton and Oregon transfer Ty Thompson to the starting job. He proved why on Thursday, tossing for over 17 yards per attempt and throwing two touchdowns. While both Thompson and Horton got some playing time, after a strong debut it appears that Mensah will be the starting quarterback for the Green Wave.

Impact Preston wasn't listed on Tulane's initial two-deep of the 2024 season, and now we know why. The receiver will reportedly return early in the season, but his timetable is still unclear as the Green Wave aren't looking to rush him back into action. Once he does return, Preston figures to be a significant part of Tulane's passing attack.

Impact Bauman has been limited this offseason, but the tight end is now a full go. He's reportedly playing well in fall camp, and was named to the John Mackey Award watchlist, the recipient being the best tight end in college football. Impact Ibieta no longer being part of Tulane's football roster means its 2024 team will have to narrow down a primary quarterback between Ty Thompson and Kai Horton. On the plus side, the injured junior will re-enroll at Tulane as a medical disqualification. Perhaps once Ibieta is healthy and ready, he can compete to be Tulane's main QB again.

Impact Not even one week after Horton's portal withdrawal, Tulane received a commitment from Thompson, who played relatively well during 2023 despite being Oregon's backup to Bo Nix. Still, there is a better chance Horton serves as Tulane's 2024 QB1, especially now that the Green Wave no longer have Michael Pratt or Landon Ibieta on their football roster. Horton will just have to continually impress, like he did with 140 scrimmage yards and one touchdown during the 2023 Military Bowl.

Ty Thompson - In QB competition against Horton Thompson is competing against Kai Horton for Tulane's quarterback position, Guerry Smith of NOLA.com reports.

Impact Thompson committed to Tulane less than one week after team mainstay Kai Horton withdrew from the transfer portal. Despite attempting fewer than 10 passes across each of his seven games during 2023, the ex-Oregon transfer logged at least one touchdown in four matchups then. Being a backup to Bo Nix would have been problematic for any collegiate quarterback, but that will be far from an issue this time around.
