Miguel Castro - Blows lead, takes loss Castro (5-4) was tagged with Thursday's loss to Atlanta. He allowed three runs on two hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning.

Impact Castro, who began the eighth inning with a 5-3 lead, sandwiched a pair of outs around a double before getting into trouble. He walked Ozzie Albies before Austin Riley took him deep for a three-run home run to erase Arizona's lead. Although his 3.4 BB/9 is an improvement over previous seasons, it's still a high number and the right-hander walked a delicate line before Thursday's costly free pass. A one-time member of a closer-by-committee, Castro has since returned to a middle-relief role, one in which he had recent success. Castro entered the game with a 1.50 ERA over his previous 12 innings.

Corbin Carroll - Closes in on 20-30 Carroll went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Thursday's 7-5 loss to Atlanta.

Impact Carroll homered in the top of the eighth inning to increase the Diamondbacks' lead to 5-3 before the bullpen ceded four runs in the bottom half of the frame. A candidate for MLB Rookie of the Year, Carroll inched closer to a 20-30 campaign. The homer was his 19th and the steal his 29th.

Emmanuel Rivera - Homers in loss Rivera went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's 7-5 loss to Atlanta.

Impact Rivera's blast was the second of back-to-back homers in the seventh inning that turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead before the bullpen let it slip away. The home run was the second in as many starts for Rivera, who had entered the All-Star break in a slump but is 4-for-13 with three extra-base hits in the second half. He continues to have an edge at third base over Evan Longoria.

Dominic Canzone - Swats first MLB homer Canzone went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 7-5 loss to Atlanta.

Impact Canzone, who registered his first hit in the majors in Tuesday's series opener, belted his first MLB homer in the seventh inning to give Arizona a brief lead. His was the first of back-to-back homers, as Emmanuel Rivera followed up to increase the lead. Canzone has made three starts since being called up from Triple-A Reno earlier this month. The Diamondbacks are stacked in the outfield, and it's hard to see how Canzone can get significant plate appearances.

Zac Gallen - Strikes out five over seven frames Gallen did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings against Atlanta. He struck out five.

Impact Gallen was perfect through five innings before surrendering a solo home run to Orlando Arcia in the bottom of the sixth. The right-hander was again victimized by the long ball in the seventh, this time coming off the bat of Matt Olsen for a two-run shot as Atlanta fought its way back. Gallen has now allowed at least three runs in four of his last five starts, going 2-2 over that stretch. He's also surrendered at least one home run in each of those four outings. .

Impact McCarthy capitalized on both of his singles in the contest, swiping second base following each hit. It was the sixth time this season that the speedy outfielder has stolen multiple bags in a contest, and he's up to 22 thefts overall, tied for eighth in the majors. McCarthy spent about a month in the minors early in the season following a slow start to the campaign, but he's been outstanding since his return, slashing .306/.382/.410 with a home run, 10 RBI, 22 runs and 20 thefts in 21 attempts over 43 games.

Kevin Ginkel - May be emerging as closer Ginkel earned a save against Atlanta on Wednesday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk over one inning.

Impact Ginkel's second save in as many days didn't come easily, as he faced the top of Atlanta's order and gave up a run on a double, a walk and a wild pitch. However, he was allowed to close out the victory despite seeing the tying run to come to the plate, which speaks to manager Torey Lovullo's trust in him. Ginkel has earned that trust with a 2.39 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 34:11 K:BB over 37.2 innings on the campaign. It may be premature to anoint him the Diamondbacks' full-time closer, but with Scott McGough having given up six runs over 1.1 frames since the All-Star break and having not recorded a save since July 1, Ginkel is likely the best Arizona bullpen option for fantasy managers chasing saves.

Ryne Nelson - Stifles Atlanta in victory Nelson (6-5) earned the win over Atlanta on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five batters over seven innings.

Impact Nelson didn't overpower the intimidating Atlanta offense, as he tallied just seven whiffs and five punchouts. However, the right-hander was efficient and effective during his seven frames, throwing 52 of 84 pitches for a strike and issuing just one walk. Two of the three hits against him left the park, but each was a solo shot, allowing Nelson to minimize the damage. He's gone seven or more innings in three of his past five outings, notching a quality start and a win in each of the three lengthy appearances. Nelson's 4.82 ERA on the campaign is far from spectacular, but it's partly the result of a handful of blow-ups, and he's given up two or fewer earned runs in nine of his 20 outings overall.
