Jake McCarthy - Swipes bag Monday McCarthy recorded a walk, a stolen base and a run in Monday's 4-3 win over the Giants.
Impact McCarthy pinch hit for Buddy Kennedy in the eighth inning, drawing a walk. He added a steal and scored on a Sergio Alcantara single, and that run ended up being the difference. McCarthy was called up from Triple-A Reno on Monday after hitting .333 with an .882 OPS in 16 games after he was sent down in mid-June. The outfielder has a .228/.291/.405 slash line with three home runs, nine RBI, 17 runs scored and two steals in 32 major-league contests, and he's likely to be limited to a depth role unless he can hit his way into more playing time.

Alek Thomas - Three hits in win Thomas went 3-for-5 with a double in Monday's 4-3 win over the Giants.
Impact Thomas wasn't directly involved in run-scoring plays, but he was the only Diamondback with multiple hits in the contest. He hadn't posted a multi-hit effort since July 1, and he's now batting .237 (9-for-38) this month. The rookie outfielder owns a .250/.305/.408 slash line with seven home runs, 22 RBI, 28 runs scored, four stolen bases and eight doubles through 213 plate appearances.

Mark Melancon - Secures 12th save Melancon allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Monday's 4-3 win over the Giants.
Impact Melancon hadn't logged a save since June 3, though that's been more a product of a lack of opportunities. Only Ian Kennedy (calf) has logged a save since Melancon's last conversion, and that came back on June 9. In his last 13 innings, Melancon has allowed six runs (five earned) with a 10:3 K:BB, two saves, a 2-2 record and a blown save. The veteran right-hander has trimmed his ERA to 5.04 with a 1.48 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB across 30.1 innings, and it appears he'll continue to maintain the closer job for the Diamondbacks, though save chances could remain sparse for the struggling team.

Merrill Kelly - Goes seven innings in win Kelly (8-5) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven-plus innings to earn the win Monday over the Giants.
Impact Kelly limited his opponent to exactly two runs for the third straight start. He gave up a run on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning and walked LaMonte Wade in the eighth before he exited. Joe Mantiply struggled in relief, allowing the inherited runner to score to tack another run on Kelly's line. This was Kelly's ninth quality start in 18 outings this year. The 28-year-old outfielder is still primarily limited to a short-side platoon role -- he last started against a right June 22, which was as a late addition to the lineup. Luplow has made the most of his limited role with 11 homers, 23 RBI, 22 runs scored and four stolen bases, but he's slashing only .178/.268/.452 through 153 plate appearances.
