Carson Kelly - Plates all three Arizona runs Kelly went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's loss to the Rockies.

Impact Kelly twice tied the score in the game, first with a two-run blast in the second inning and later with a run-scoring single in the fourth. This was just his third multi-hit contest over 37 games this season, and the three RBI were the most he has tallied in a single contest on the campaign. Kelly has had a miserable offensive season with a .155/.202/.273 slash line, but he's started to play better of late with at least one hit in six of his past seven games.

Dallas Keuchel - Bounces back with quality start Keuchel tossed seven innings against Colorado on Thursday, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four batters. He didn't factor in the decision.

Impact Keuchel's rotation spot may have been in jeopardy after he allowed 10 earned runs over 9.1 innings in his first two starts with Arizona, but the veteran bounced back with a strong effort Thursday. He tossed a campaign-high seven innings and didn't issue any free passes for the first time since his first start of the season (as a member of the White Sox) April 13. Keuchel had walked exactly three batters in four of his previous five outings, so his improved control Thursday was particularly notable. He still holds an ugly 7.63 ERA overall this season, but Keuchel at least demonstrated that there's some juice left in the tank with his second quality start of the campaign.

Impact Hager was with the major-league club since mid-May, but he saw sporadic time in the starting lineup over the last month. The 29-year-old has hit .240 with two doubles, four runs and three RBI over 28 games in the majors this year, but he should see more consistent at-bats in the minors. Sergio Alcantara was added to Arizona's active roster to serve as a utility man.

Cole Tucker - Dumped from 40-man roster Tucker was outrighted off the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster Thursday and sent to Triple-A Reno.

Impact The 26-year-old was claimed off waivers by Arizona in early June and has spent the past month at Triple-A. Tucker hit .235/.297/.296 with a home run, nine RBI and four stolen bases in 22 games for Reno, so the Diamondbacks opted to remove him from the 40-man roster.

Impact Carroll, who is currently on the Double-A Amarillo's COVID-19 related injury list and hasn't played since June 24, is hitting .313/.430/.643 with 16 home runs and 20 steals over 58 games for the SodPoodles. The outfielder has also been selected to participate in the 2022 All-Star Futures Game. A potential five-tool player, Carroll has blossomed in his first full season in the minors, although he's exhibited dramatic home/road splits in the Texas League. The 21-year-old has a 1.248 OPS (.769 slugging) at home and an .887 OPS (.509 slugging) on the road.

Ketel Marte - Leaves for pinch runner Marte started at designated hitter and went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Giants.

Impact Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo continues to use Marte at DH, fearing the aggravation of a recent hamstring injury if the manager puts the player in the field. That fear was apparently at play in the ninth inning, when Lovullo removed Marte for a pinch runner after the DH singled home a run and became the tying run. Marte has not played in the field since June 21.

Impact Mantiply came on to start the eighth inning with the Diamondbacks holding a 4-2 lead but was unable to preserve it for closer Mark Melancon. A narrow eighth-inning lead normally falls under the purview of Ian Kennedy, but a calf injury landed him on the 15-day injured list. Mantiply has been one of the better arms out of the Arizona bullpen, posting a 1.13 ERA before Wednesday's outing bumped it to 1.91 ERA (2.20 FIP) over 33 innings.

Pavin Smith - Suffers fractured wrist Smith was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Reno on Wednesday with a fractured right wrist, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Impact The 26-year-old was demoted to Reno over the weekend and sustained the broken wrist in only his second game with the affiliate. Smith has a non-displaced fracture and is also dealing with some ligament damage, and he's expected to be sidelined for at least 6-to-8 weeks.

Impact Hummel went 4-for-15 with a triple, a walk, four runs, an RBI and two stolen bases while starting in each of the past four games, but three of those starts came against left-handed pitching. Impact Varsho didn't start Tuesday -- Carson Kelly was behind the dish and Jordan Luplow patrolled right field. Varsho entered the game as a pinch hitter for Kelly in the seventh inning and promptly hit a ground rule double. He stayed in the game and added a three-run blast in the eighth to give the Diamondbacks a multi-run lead. The 26-year-old is locked in at the plate, as he's gone 8-for-16 (.500) with a pair of homers and nine RBI to begin July. For the season, he's slashing .247/.305/.435 with 12 long balls, 41 RBI, 38 runs scored, five stolen bases and 15 doubles through 74 contests. He may sit out against some southpaws, but he'll often pinch hit against right-handed relievers in those games.
