Reds vs. Marlins Prediction, Odds, Picks - July 12
Austin Gomber - Saddled with sixth lossGomber (2-6) took the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings against the Reds. He struck out five.
ImpactEach of the four runs Gomber allowed came via the long ball, with Tyler Stephenson tagging him for a three-run dinger in the third, then Santiago Espinal following up with a solo blast in the fourth. It was the fifth time in 10 road starts that Gomber has allowed at least four earned runs in a start. Surprisingly, Gomber has fared much worse on the road despite playing his home games at Coors Field, posting a 5.61 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 51.1 innings away from home as opposed to marks of 3.54 and 1.18 over 48.1 frames in the high altitude.

Hunter Greene - Posts season-high 10 K'sGreene (6-4) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings against the Rockies. He struck out 10.
ImpactGreene, who was added to the All-Star game a couple of days ago, validated that selection by allowing just a single earned run and only four baserunners while fanning a season-high 10 batters over six innings. It's the fifth time in his last six outings that Greene has allowed two or fewer runs, a feat he's now accomplished 13 times in 19 starts this season. Greene heads into the All-Star break with a 3.34 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 126 strikeouts over 110.1 innings.

Santiago Espinal - Homers in winEspinal went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Thursday's 8-1 win over Colorado.
ImpactEspinal got the start at shortstop, giving Elly De La Cruz a breather, and belted his fourth home run of the season. It was his third straight start after he filled in at second base for Jonathan India, who battled knee soreness the previous two games. Espinal has hit safely in four straight, going 6-for-12 and bumping his average to .203 for the season.

Rece Hinds - Two hits, steal in winHinds went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Thursday's 8-1 win over the Rockies.
ImpactHinds made a fourth consecutive start in right field since being promoted from Triple-A Louisville earlier this week, and it may be hard to sit him down. The 23-year-old has hit safely in all four games, going 8-for-16 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, four RBI and two steals. Hinds, who's stolen bases in two straight games, was a double-digit base stealer in the minors.

Tyler Stephenson - Keeps mashingStephenson went 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Thursday's 8-win over the Rockies.
ImpactStephenson's three-run shot in the third inning was all the Reds needed, but he added another homer -- a two-run blast -- in the seventh. It was quite a series for the catcher, who mashed four home runs and drove in eight over the three-game set. The 27-year-old backstop is up to 10 home runs in 76 games, putting him on pace to wipe out the career 13 swatted in 2023.
