Impact As usual, Hudson didn't generate many whiffs, with the outing lowering his season strikeout rate to 13.5 percent, but a win and five scoreless frames still provide plenty of fantasy value. The righty didn't throw a single clean frame, but he avoided serious trouble throughout the night to drop his ERA to 3.06 through seven starts. He'll look to lower it again his next time out, which tentatively lines up for Thursday against the Mets.

Impact The damage against Hudson could have been much greater if not for some well-timed double-play balls. 11 of the 27 batters against him reached base with only Bobby Witt's solo homer going for extra bases. Entering the game, the righty had a 1.02 WHIP but that increased to 1.21 following the outing. It was the third consecutive start where the 27-year-old tossed at least six innings.

Impact Hudson's control was shaky in the outing, as he threw only 46 of 84 pitches for strikes. However, the right-hander made up for his three free passes by allowing only one hit and keeping the Diamondbacks off the scoreboard for six innings. This was Hudson's second straight impressive win, and he allowed just three hits with an 8:7 K:BB over 12.2 scoreless frames in those outings. The walks may catch up to him eventually, but for now Hudson is rolling, and he'll look to keep the momentum going when he faces Kansas City next week.

The right-hander is looking to re-establish himself after missing nearly all of last season following 2020 Tommy John surgery.

Albert Pujols tied the game with a three-run home run in the third, but Hudson got back into trouble in the fourth. T.J. McFarland then allowed an inherited runner to score the tiebreaking run, which left Hudson with the loss when the Cardinals failed to pull even again. The right-hander has been shaky through two starts, allowing seven runs (six earned) in seven innings with a 6:2 K:BB. He lines up to make his next start versus the Reds next weekend.
