Impact This is a separate issue from the forearm tightness that originally led to him landing on the injured list on July 18. DeGrom said a bone spur has been ruled out and there isn't ligament damage, so the official injury designation is elbow inflammation. When asked Tuesday if he was concerned that he might miss the rest of the season, deGrom said, "I would say no, not right now." It sounds like he will need good results on the MRI around Aug. 13 in order to return by early September.

Impact DeGrom experienced no renewed pain with his right forearm while throwing off flat ground from 90 feet Wednesday, so he'll take another step forward in his recovery process by tossing a side session. The Mets will observe the workout before deciding whether deGrom will require another bullpen session or if he's ready to resume facing hitters in live batting practice. Assuming he can avoid any further setbacks, deGrom looks as though he could be on track to rejoin the New York rotation during the first week of August.
