Impact Berrios was chased early and never found his footing. He coughed up three runs in the first inning and two more in the second. His wild pitch in the third inning allowed a sixth run to score before he left the contest. Berrios had allowed two or fewer earned runs in eight straight starts before Friday's hiccup. Despite the poor outing, he posted a strong 2.95 ERA in 12 starts after the All-Star break. Overall, he finished his 2024 campaign with a 3.60 ERA and a 153:54 K:BB through 192.1 innings.

Impact Berrios managed to keep the Rangers off the board, save for an RBI single by Nathaniel Lowe in the sixth. It was just the second time since the end of May that Berrios completed seven frames and was the first time in that time frame that the veteran righty allowed as few as one run. He had particularly struggled over his last eight starts prior to Sunday, carrying a 6.44 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with a walk rate per nine of 3.7 over 43.1 innings over that stretch. Additionally, Berrios managed to not walk a batter after delivering 10 free passes in 8.2 innings over his past two starts. Berrios will look to build upon this effort, though it won't get any easier in his next start as he's currently scheduled to take on the Yankees in the Bronx.
