Impact Berrios flirted with a no-hitter last time out, but he couldn't replicate that form and struggled mightily versus Miami. It was just the third time all season that the right-hander had given up at least eight hits and five runs in a game and the first time since May 1. Despite the poor outing, Berrios still sports an above-average 3.64 ERA and 1.21 WHIP while posting a modest 79:26 K:BB through 15 starts (89 innings). He'll look to shake off Monday's outing next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for a home matchup versus the Athletics.

Berrios has been solid of late, allowing eight runs over his last four outings (25.1 innings). He lowered his ERA to 4.22 with a 1.28 WHIP and 57:14 K:BB through 59.2 innings this year.

Impact Berrios turned in his best outing of the season Tuesday, giving up no runs for the first time in any of his five starts and setting a new high in punchouts with nine. The right-hander got out to a blazing start to the game, striking out the side in the top of the first and retiring 12 of his first 13 batters. Berrios owns a poor 4.71 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and a 9.42 K/9 so far this season. However, brighter days appear to be ahead for Berrios considering he has allowed just three runs over his last 19 innings and has gone seven frames in each of his last two starts.

Coming off a puzzling 2022 campaign where he put up uncharacteristically high ratios (5.23 ERA, 1.42 WHIP), Berrios did little to earn the trust of his fantasy managers, although at least the strikeouts were there. The second of his two starts this week is tentatively scheduled for Saturday in Anaheim.

Impact The start was reminiscent of Berrios' struggles in 2022 for the Blue Jays as the right-hander missed his spots in the strike zone and got hit hard, with Anthony Santander's three-run homer being the biggest blow. Per Gregor Chisholm of The Toronto Star, Berrios has been working on some mechanical tweaks to improve his command, but it doesn't look like those efforts have paid off just yet. The 28-year-old had a 3.52 ERA and 26.1 percent strikeout rate in 2021 and his raw stuff isn't in question, but those numbers collapsed to 5.23 and 19.8 percent last year. Whether he can regain his prior form could be one of the keys to Toronto's fortunes this season, as well as those of fantasy GMs gambling on a rebound.
