Impact Coming off one of his best outings of the year, Manning got off to a rough start with a 32-pitch, four-run first inning Thursday. The right-hander walked Starling Marte on six pitches, then walked Matt Chapman with two outs. Jed Lowrie took advantage by launching a three-run home run, and Mark Canha with a solo shot to make it 4-0. Manning never recovered from there, resulting in his sixth loss of the season. The 23-year-old has a 6.29 ERA and 1.60 WHIP this season, and he's not guaranteed to stick in the rotation through the end of the campaign.

Impact Manning recorded his second quality start of the season, and most importantly, he managed to bounce back after a woeful outing against Cleveland in his previous start. The rookie right-hander has struggled with consistency at times, but he has shown promise and has allowed three or fewer runs in five of his last seven appearances.
