Garrett Mitchell - Scores lone run Sunday Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Padres.

Impact Mitchell scored the Brewers only run of the afternoon and it proved to be enough after Wade Miley fired seven shutout frames and the bullpen took care of the rest. The 24-year-old reached base in the second inning on a bunt single. A Yu Darvish balk got him over to second base and then he stole third before being driven home on a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of Brian Anderson. It was Mitchell's first stolen base of the year, and plenty more should be expected after he had eight in just 28 games last season.

Wade Miley - Outduels Darvish for second win Miley (2-1) earned the win Sunday, pitching seven shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out eight against the Padres. He did not walk a batter.

Impact Miley was engaged in a pitcher's duel with Yu Darvish and turned in one of his better outings in recent memory. He completed seven innings for the first time since May 16 and his eight strikeouts were his most since Sept. 7, 2021. Miley typically isn't known for being a strikeout type of pitcher, but he was able to neutralize the Padres' lineup with relative ease. The 36-year-old has tossed shutouts now in two-of-three starts to kick off the year and now stands at a 1.50 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a 14:3 K:BB over 18 innings. He tentatively lines up to face the Red Sox at home next weekend.

Elvis Peguero - Joins big club Peguero was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday.

Impact The right-hander failed to make Milwaukee's Opening Day roster but will join the MLB club a couple weeks into the season. Peguero has pitched well early this year for Nashville with a 2.45 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB over 7.1 innings.

Impact Varland was hit in in the hand, face and forearm by a comebacker Saturday, with his hand being receiving the brunt of the impact. The 26-year-old will be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks. Elvis Peguero was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.

Victor Caratini - Picks up four hits in loss Caratini went 4-for-4 with one run scored in Saturday's loss against the Padres.

Impact Carantini has gotten limited playing time to begin the season as the backup backstop, but the 29-year-old took advantage of a start Saturday against the Padres with the four-hit effort. With a career .669 OPS over six-plus seasons, it's unlikely there are too many more of these games coming for Caratini for the rest of the campaign.

Gus Varland - X-rays negative on right hand Varland told reporters after Saturday's game against the Padres that x-rays returned negative on his right hand, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Impact Varland was hit in the hand, face and forearm by a liner off the bat of Manny Machado that registered a 105 mph exit velocity. The right-hander said that his hand took the brunt of the blow and believed he could have continued while acknowledging that could be adrenaline talking. It does appear Varland has avoided a serious injury, but he still should be considered day-to-day at this point.

Freddy Peralta - Ineffective in loss to Padres Peralta (2-1) took the loss Saturday while allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk over five innings in a 10-3 loss against the Padres. He struck out five.

Impact Peralta was staked a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but he almost immediately blow that cushion by giving up a pair himself and another run in the second. He was able to get through the next pair of innings unscathed but a two-run homer by Jake Cronenworth gave the Padres the 5-3 lead and Peralta his first loss of the season. The 26-year-old was oustanding over his first two starts of the season while allowing just a single run over 12 innings, but he didn't have his best stuff against a tough San Diego lineup. He'll take a 3.18 ERA into a start that's lined up for the weekend against the Red Sox.
