Impact As long as he can throw enough strikes, Ashby has a future as a starter, but his inexperience likely means he's the odd man out if the Brewers use a traditional five-man rotation. Even in that case, he's likely to make a good number of starts when other pitchers get injured, but the chance to stake his claim for a permanent spot with a strong early run in the rotation could do a lot for his fantasy value. The young lefty recorded an unremarkable 4.55 ERA in 31.2 innings as a swingman last season, but his 29.3 percent strikeout rate and 61.3 percent groundball rate showcased his big-league potential.

Impact Houser could get the ball again in the Brewers' exhibition finale Tuesday against the Royals, but even if Thursday's outing is it for him during the spring, he should be sufficiently built up for starting duty by the time Opening Day arrives. At this point, Houser looks in good shape to win a rotation spot; the only question is whether he'll be part of a traditional five-man staff, or a six-man staff that also includes youngster Aaron Ashby. The Brewers finished the 2021 regular season with a six-man rotation, and though the arrangement cost each member some innings, it paid dividends from a workload management standpoint.

Impact The Brewers have already indicated that Urias will begin the regular season on the injured list, and it's possible that he'll need to spend more than the minimum of 10 days on the shelf. The infielder is running at about 50 percent intensity and doesn't yet feel confident pushing it further. Jace Peterson will likely serve as the primary third baseman to begin the season, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Brewers exercise caution in Urias' recovery to prevent a more significant injury.
