Likely heading to injured list Manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Cortes will likely be placed on the injured list with a shoulder injury, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
Impact Cortes tossed a season-high 101 pitches Tuesday against the Angels and allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six in five innings to earn the win. However, he wasn't listed as a probable starter for the Yankees during their upcoming series against the White Sox, and he's apparently dealing with a shoulder issue that will force him to miss time. The southpaw will undergo an MRI on Monday or Tuesday to determine the extent of his injury. However, Boone hopes Cortes will miss just one or two starts. It's not yet clear who will take Cortes' place in the rotation.

Surrenders two runs in win Cortes (5-2) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six and earning the win over the Mariners on Tuesday.
Impact Cortes blanked the Mariners over the first four innings, but then a leadoff walk and a pair of doubles plated two runs in the fifth and would be replaced after getting through the frame with 101 pitches. The 28-year-old showed some life on his fastball, as it was averaging 92.1 MPH. He registered 14 whiffs on the evening and recorded six strikeouts for the second time over this last three outings. Despite an ERA north of five, Cortes is tied for fifth in the majors with a multitude of other pitches at five wins this season. He'll take a 5.16 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 59:19 K:BB into his next start, which is projected to come against the White Sox next week.

He still exited the game in line for the win, but Jimmy Cordero was even more ineffective after replacing him. Cordero has allowed at least four runs in three of his last five starts and has now served up 10 homers in 54.1 innings on the year, leaving him with a 5.30 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 53:16 K:BB. He'll try to bounce back in his next outing, which is likely to come early next week in Seattle.
