Impact Merrill broke a 2-2 tie with a bases-clearing triple in the third inning. The rookie continues to rake, as he's batting .315 (17-for-54) with 10 extra-base hits (four homers, three doubles and three triples) along with 15 RBI through 15 games in August. Paul Skenes remains the favorite for Rookie of the Year honors in the National League, but Merrill could give him a run down the stretch, as he's now at a .290/.321/.484 slash line, 17 long balls, 69 RBI, 61 runs and 13 stolen bases over 458 plate appearances on the campaign.

Impact Suarez wasn't exactly sharp in the outing, but he had a three-run lead to work with and performed well enough to pick up the save. The right-hander threw just 12 of 22 pitches for strikes and allowed a run for the third time over his past five appearances, though he's gone 4-for-4 on save opportunities during that span. Despite the moderately bumpy stretch, Suarez still has an outstanding 1.82 ERA and 0.91 WHIP on the season, and he ranks fifth in the majors with 28 saves.

Impact The three walks King issued were his most over his past nine starts, but he was still pretty efficient in getting through six frames on 85 pitches (53 of which were strikes). The right-hander induced 14 whiffs and finished with his fifth quality start across his past six outings. King has thrived in his first season as a full-time starter, registering a 3.18 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 167:50 K:BB over 141.1 innings. He's been a huge addition to a Padres rotation that is currently without Yu Darvish (personal) and that was without Joe Musgrove for much of the campaign.

Impact Musgrove continues to be brought along slowly in his recovery from bone bruise and bone spur in his throwing elbow. He stretched out to 73 pitches (47 strikes) and limited the damage to an Aaron Schunk RBI double in the third inning. Musgrove has allowed one run on five hits and three walks over 8.2 innings since his return. The veteran right-hander has a 4.97 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 51:18 K:BB through 58 innings over 12 starts this year. Musgrove will likely still have a slight workload restriction for his next start, which is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Mets.
