Sent down to Triple-A The Padres optioned Vasquez to Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Vasquez started Thursday's game against the Pirates, and although he's been a decent arm in the back end of the Padres' rotation, he'll exit the 26-man roster to give the team additional bullpen help in the form of Jhony Brito. Even if San Diego didn't require another bullpen arm, Vasquez was at risk of losing his starting spot with Joe Musgrove (elbow) returning next week.

Brought up to bigs The Padres recalled Brito from Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Brito will join the big club for the first time since being optioned June 24, taking Randy Vasquez's place on the 26-man roster. Brito has pitched 41.1 innings for the Padres this season, logging a 4.35 ERA with a 26:9 K:BB. He hasn't recorded a hold and has blown three saves.

Homers in win Thursday Peralta went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 7-6 victory over the Pirates.
Impact Peralta built upon the Padres' early lead with his two-run blast to right field in the second inning. It was his second homer over his past four games, a stretch during which the veteran outfielder has gone 4-for-10 with three walks and five RBI. Peralta had only two long balls over 49 contests prior to the four-game surge.

Remains hot Thursday Machado went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday in a 7-6 win against Pittsburgh.
Impact Machado gave San Diego an early lead with his two-run blast to left field in the first inning. The veteran third baseman has at least one hit in nine of his past 10 games and is slashing .381/.400/.810 with five homers, 11 RBI, 10 runs and a stolen base during that stretch. The power surge has pushed him to 18 long balls on the season, but Machado is still off pace to reach 30 homers, which he accomplished each of the previous two campaigns.

Nails down 25th save Suarez picked up the save Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over one inning against the Pirates. He struck out two.
Impact Suarez allowed a two-out double to Joey Bart followed by an RBI single to Rowdy Tellez but finished off his 25th save of the season by striking out Bryan De La Cruz on three consecutive heaters to end the threat. The outing marked just the fifth time in 45 appearances that Suarez, who now owns a 1.59 ERA, has allowed at least one earned run.

Stumbles in sixth inning Vasquez did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over 5.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out three.
Impact Vasquez cruised through five, holding the Pirates off the board while entering the sixth with a four-run lead. However, things unraveled as he faced the top of the Pirates' lineup for a third time, allowing four hits to the first five batters in the inning prior to being pulled. Three of those baserunners went on to score and Vasquez was eventually left with a no-decision. It was the sixth time in his last eight starts Vasquez has tossed at least five innings while allowing three runs or fewer, posting a 3.42 ERA over 39 innings during that stretch. He'll take a 4.63 ERA and 1.51 WHIP into his next start, tentatively scheduled to take place against these same Pirates when they make the return trip cross-country to San Diego.

Now likely to return Monday Musgrove (elbow) will not rejoin the Padres' rotation this weekend in Miami as previously anticipated, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact Manager Mike Shildt had indicated previously that Musgrove would make a start against the Marlins, but he is not listed among the team's probables this weekend. Instead, he's likely to return Monday at home versus the Pirates, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, although that has not yet been confirmed by the team. Musgrove went 3.1 innings and threw 43 pitches in a rehab start with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Sunday. He's been out since late May with a bone spur and bone bruise in his right elbow.

Impact The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Carl Edwards. Wolf was reacquired from the Pirates back in April after being designated for assignment and has posted a 7.21 ERA this season at Triple-A El Paso. The lefty is just 25 and has shown some swing-and-miss ability in the past, so it's possible there will be interest via trade or waivers.

Impact Jacob struck out three and gave up a hit over a scoreless 22-pitch inning in relief in Wednesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.
