Michael Wacha - Fans five in no-decision Wacha allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five innings against the Cubs on Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision.

Impact Wacha breezed through three scoreless frames before giving up a pair of runs on a Trey Mancini homer in the fourth. The right-handed hurler yielded another run in the fifth and didn't come out of the dugout for the sixth. Though he wasn't able to notch the win, this was a marked improvement for Wacha in comparison to his previous two starts, during which he gave up a combined 12 earned runs across 8.1 innings. His five punchouts Wednesday were the second-most he has tallied this season, trailing just his 10-strikeout gem against Atlanta on April 8.

Impact The 21-year-old infielder was off to a 1-for-17 start to the season and struck out at a 42.1 percent clip before he was shut down with the injury. The Padres haven't provided a timeline for when he might return to action at High-A.

Yu Darvish - On track to start Sunday Darvish (hamstring) is on track to start Sunday for the Padres against the Giants in Mexico City, Joey Pollizze of MLB.com reports.

Impact Darvish left Sunday's start against the Diamondbacks with a right hamstring crap, but the right-hander's absence was described as precautionary. If there are any signs of setback it's possible the Padres could push Darvish back, but it does appear that the 36-year-old won't end up missing any time with the hamstring trouble.

Tom Cosgrove - Call-up official The Padres recalled Cosgrove from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Impact Cosgrove will head to the big leagues for the first time since entering the professional ranks in 2017 as a 12th-round draft pick. He'll be joining the San Diego bullpen as another left-handed option after southpaw Ryan Weathers was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Over his seven appearances with El Paso this season, Cosgrove struck out seven and had allowed just five baserunners in 7.1 innings.

Impact Even though Weathers fared well over his first three starts of the season with the big club (2.81 ERA, 1.19 WHIP in 16 innings), the Padres had no room for him in the rotation following Joe Musgrove's recent return from the injured list. Weathers was able to stick with the Padres over the past week in a relief role, but since the organization still wants the 23-year-old lefty to continue his development as a starter, he'll head back to El Paso to make regular turns through the rotation. The Friars recalled lefty Tom Cosgrove from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Blake Snell - Remains winless with loss to Cubs Snell (0-4) took the loss Tuesday, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks over five innings against the Cubs. He struck out five.

Impact Snell once again was unable to pick up a win, but that had more to do with the lack of offense behind him then how he pitched against the Cubs on Wednesday. The southpaw allowed a two-run homer to Yan Gomes in the second inning, but Snell was able to keep Chicago off the board from that point on. Unfortunately for him and the Padres, the San Diego offense was unable to reach the scoreboard against Justin Steele and the Cubs' bullpen. Control was once again an issue for Snell, however, as he has walked at least three batters in four consecutive starts and issued 18 overall free passes in 23 innings.

José Iglesias - Gets MiLB deal with Friars Iglesias signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Tuesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Impact After opting out of his minor-league deal with Miami on Thursday, Iglesias now joins the Padres as an organizational depth piece. The 33-year-old shortstop had a solid season in the majors last year (.292 AVG, .708 OPS), but as long as Xander Bogaerts is in San Diego, it's unlikely that Iglesias gets many reps with the big-league squad.

Impact Pomeranz logged two perfect innings with Single-A Lake Elsinore and should finally be cleared to return to the Padres' bullpen after maybe one or two appearances with El Paso. The lefty reliever hasn't pitched in a major-league game since 2021 due to flexor tendon surgery and subsequent complications.
