Padres score early against Bumgarner, beat Dbacks SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres limped home Thursday night with the goal of simply not stumbling into the All-Star break.
Yu Darvish - Racks up nine strikeouts in win Darvish (8-4) earned the win Friday over the Diamondbacks. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in seven innings.
Impact All three runs against Darvish came via the home run, as Ketel Marte tagged him for a first-inning solo shot and Christian Walker added a two-run blast in the fourth. After allowing six homers through his first 14 starts this year, Darvish has given up five long balls in his last three outings. The right-hander still turned in his 13th quality start of the campaign, and he has a 3.41 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 100:22 K:BB through 108.1 innings overall.

Impact Scott had his contract selected by San Diego on July 3, and he allowed five earned runs with a 10:4 K:BB in 6.2 innings across four appearances. It was the 30-year-old's first major-league action since 2019, and he's now headed back to the minors.

Steven Wilson - Returns from injured list Wilson (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day injured list by the Padres on Friday.
Impact Wilson landed on the shelf with hamstring tendinitis in late June, and he'll rejoin the active roster after a one-game rehab stint with Triple-A El Paso. The rookie right-hander has recorded one save and five holds with a 3.62 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB across 27.1 innings this season.

Jose Azocar - Sent to Triple-A Azocar was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
Impact Azocar made the Opening Day roster and has operated as a reserve outfielder through most of the season's first half, but he'll head to the minors ahead of the final series before the All-Star break. The 26-year-old has a .229/.277/.321 slash line with eight RBI, 12 runs and three stolen bases through his first 69 big-league games.

Impact Tatis underwent another scan on his wrist Monday and was believed to have differing opinions regarding his status from the team's medical staff. However, he's been cleared to take another step in his recovery process by beginning a hitting progression. The 23-year-old has been fielding grounders and shagging balls in the outfield in recent weeks. Although it's certainly encouraging that he'll begin a hitting progression, it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to game action.

Impact Grisham was in the lineup even with a lefty on the mound and delivered his ninth homer and fourth stolen base of the season. He's popped three of his long balls since July 1, also racking up five RBI and five runs scored across 12 starts in that span. For the season, Grisham has a .192/.295/.334 line across 338 plate appearances.

Blake Snell - Extreme control issues Snell allowed five earned runs on four hits and six walks while striking out five across 3.2 innings Thursday against the Rockies. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Snell looked sharp in the first inning, retiring the side in order. However, that was the highlight of his outing as he proceeded to give up a season-high six walks and five earned runs.
