C.J. Abrams - Crushes three-run blast Abrams went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 6-5 win over the Rockies.
Impact Abrams' eighth-inning blast gave the Padres just enough offense to get the win. He's started each of the last two games at shortstop with Ha-Seong Kim (thumb) hurt, though Kim was able to appear as a defensive replacement Monday and may not be out much longer. Abrams is 7-for-20 (.350) in July, and he's up to a .234/.281/.333 slash line with two homers, 11 RBI, 15 runs scored and a stolen base through 123 plate appearances overall.

Manny Machado - Swats 15th homer Machado went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-5 win over the Rockies.
Impact Machado has homered three times in his last five games, and he's up to 15 long balls this year. He took Rockies reliever Lucas Gilbreath deep in the seventh inning Monday. Since the start of July, Machado has gone 5-for-33 (.152), and his last multi-hit effort was June 18, which was a day before he suffered an ankle injury that cost him nine games. The recent slump has dropped his slash line to .310/.385/.538 through 77 contests this year.

Jake Cronenworth - Homers in three-hit effort Cronenworth went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Monday's 6-5 win over the Rockies.
Impact Cronenworth had four hits in his last nine games to begin July, so this was an encouraging showing. He hadn't homered since June 20, picking up only three extra-base hits (all doubles) prior to his long ball Monday. The infielder is up to eight homers, 45 RBI, 54 runs scored and a stolen base while slashing .241/.334/.389 through 86 contests this year. Despite his recent batting struggles, Cronenworth has maintained a place in the upper third of the Padres' order.

Taylor Rogers - Unsteady in save Monday Rogers allowed two runs on three hits and struck out one in one inning to pick up the save in Monday's 6-5 win over the Rockies.
Impact Rogers entered with a three-run lead, but he allowed a leadoff single to Randal Grichuk and a pair of two-out doubles to Connor Joe and Charlie Blackmon, which trimmed the lead to one. Rogers was able to get C.J. Cron to ground out, but it was another shaky outing from the Padres' closer. He's given up at least one run in five straight outings, blowing two of four save chances in that span. Rogers has yielded seven runs in his last 5.2 innings, inflating his season ERA to 4.04 with a 1.04 WHIP and 41:7 K:BB through 35.2 innings. Manager Bob Melvin appears willing to let Rogers pitch through his struggles -- Nick Martinez has three saves since mid-June, but all of those have been of the three-inning variety, so he's not expected to be a threat for the closer role.

Sean Manaea - Bounces back for fourth win Manaea (4-4) earned the win Monday over the Rockies. He allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five in 6.1 innings.
Impact Manaea gave up a sacrifice fly to C.J. Cron and a solo home run to Randal Grichuk. That was all the damage on Manaea's line, making this an encouraging bounce-back effort after he lasted just 3.1 innings in a loss to the Mariners last Monday. The southpaw has 12 quality starts in 16 outings, and he owns a 4.09 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 97:36 K:BB across 94.2 innings this season. He's projected for one more start before the All-Star break, which would be a home date against the Diamondbacks this weekend.

Wil Myers - Headed out on rehab assignment Myers (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday.
Impact Myers went on the 10-day IL on June 3, and he's only recently been able to run the bases as a test of his right knee. The veteran last played in a game May 31, so he'll probably require a few rehab appearances before he's cleared to return to the Padres. Myers will likely retain his role as San Diego's starting right fielder upon his return, though he struggled to a .234/.276/.306 slash line over 134 plate appearances prior to landing on the injured list.
