Tommy La Stella - Placed on injured list La Stella (Achilles) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Impact La Stella was delayed during spring training after he underwent Achilles surgery in October, and he'll be forced to miss the start of the regular season while he continues his recovery process. Wilmer Flores, Mauricio Dubon and Thairo Estrada should see additional playing time in the infield while La Stella and Evan Longoria (finger) are sidelined.

Tyler Beede - Makes Opening Day roster Beede was informed by the Giants on Wednesday he's made the Opening Day roster, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Impact Beede had a 5.08 ERA over 117 innings for the Giants in 2019 but missed the following campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he returned to the mound with Triple-A Sacramento last year. The 28-year-old was reportedly throwing up to 98 mph during spring training, though he still surrendered six earned runs across 4.2 frames. San Francisco has five solidified starters in its rotation, but Beede could work as the sixth man of the group.

Sam Long - Struggles in spring Long has allowed five runs on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts across 4.2 innings in three Cactus League games.

Impact Long made a solid impression Monday versus the Athletics with a perfect inning. He's been hit by the long ball, allowing two home runs in his three appearances. The southpaw is still viewed as a starter by the Giants, but it's possible he could serve as a multi-inning reliever early in the season -- the five-man rotation is locked in but will still need to stretch out in the first few weeks.

Impact Belt started at first base and went 0-for-2 in his spring debut Saturday against the Dodgers, but the Giants will have him fill a non-defensive role in the lineup for his second start of the Cactus League season. The Giants plan to keep Belt in the starting nine Tuesday before deciding whether he's fit to be part of the Opening Day roster, or if he'll require a brief IL stint to begin the season. Darin Ruf would likely absorb most of the at-bats at first base if Belt is sidelined for the start of the campaign.

Carlos Martínez - Won't break camp in big leagues Martinez (thumb) will remain at the Giants' Arizona complex once the regular season begins, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Impact Martinez joined the team on a minor-league deal after missing the second half of last season with a torn thumb ligament. He's yet to throw a pitch in a Cactus League game, so he'll continue to build up at the complex in an effort to eventually earn a big-league roster spot.

Impact Junis allowed two hits and no walks while striking out four in four scoreless innings across two Cactus League appearances this spring, but he was unable to land a spot in the Giants' bullpen to begin the year. While the 29-year-old will begin the year in the minors, he'll be among the top candidates for a call-up if San Francisco needs a spot starter or long reliever.

Kervin Castro - Sent down Sunday Castro was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Impact Castro was reportedly a favorite to earn a spot in the Giants' bullpen as a bulk reliever, but he'll ultimately begin the year in the minors. The right-hander was effective during the 2021 campaign, posting a 2.86 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 44 innings across 30 appearances at the Triple-A level before tossing 13.1 scoreless innings across his first 10 big-league appearances. As long as those strong results continue in Sacramento in 2022, it wouldn't be surprising to see him rejoin the Giants at some point.
