Wong also got on base via a walk in his next plate appearance and crossed the plate courtesy of Cal Raleigh's two-run double, making it a reasonably productive night following an 0-for-3 showing on Opening Day that included a hit-by-pitch and a run. The veteran second baseman should once again profile as a high-contact, frequent on-base presence with decent pop in 2023.

Impact After getting hit by a Hunter Gaddis pitch with one out in the fourth inning, Hummel stole second and came home on a Julio Rodriguez double. The former Diamondback has never been a big running threat in his career, but his 88th percentile sprint speed last season per Statcast suggests he has some untapped potential on that front. Hummel will first need to show he can hit enough to earn semi-consistent playing time as a utility player on the Seattle bench, however -- the .581 OPS he managed in 66 games for Arizona in 2022 paled in comparison to the .969 OPS he's amassed at Triple-A over 125 games.

Robbie Ray - Can't find plate Friday Ray (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Mariners fell 9-4 to the Guardians, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits and five walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

Impact A pair of throwing errors on the same play in the second inning -- one by Teoscar Hernandez and the other by Ray himself -- led to Cleveland's first two runs and softened the blow to the southpaw's ERA, but the fact that he threw only 51 of 91 pitches for strikes played a bigger role in his early exit. Ray's success the last two seasons has been built on improved command and a walk rate below 10 percent, and it's far too early to assume he's fallen back into old, wild habits. The 31-year-old will look to bounce back in his next start, likely coming Wednesday at home against the Angels.

Impact Solak was designated for assignment Thursday, and he finds a new home a day later. The 28-year-old showed promise with the bat early in his career, but he's struggled to the tun of a .246/.317/.354 slash in 839 plate appearances since 2020.
