George Kirby - Won't have innings limit in '23 The Mariners don't plan to officially limit Kirby's innings in 2023 but will likely build him up slowly at the start of the season, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
Impact The 25-year-old logged 130 innings in his rookie 2022 season, the most he'd worked by far in a professional career dating back to 2019. Drayer notes manager Scott Servais won't look to officially limit Kirby's innings in his second season, but the fact the right-hander will slot into the No. 5 spot in the rotation will organically afford him some off over the course of the season. "Starting in the 5-hole (fifth spot in the rotation), he is going to get some extra rest between starts, which will be good for him as we ramp up throughout the season," Servais said.

Sam Haggerty - Solid spring at plate Haggerty hit .290 (9-for-31) with two doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBI across 34 Cactus League plate appearances.
Impact The valued utility player put together a line representative of his ability to contribute in a wide variety of offensive categories. Haggerty put together a solid .256 average and .738 OPS across 83 games last season, and the 28-year-old also contributed a career-high 13 stolen bases in the process. Haggerty's ability to fill in at every position except catcher and first base will be especially valued while the similarly versatile Dylan Moore (oblique) is on the injured list.

Mason McCoy - Misses out on Opening Day roster The Mariners reassigned McCoy to minor-league camp Monday.
Impact The soon-to-be 28-year-old McCoy has yet to make his MLB debut and doesn't possess a spot on the Mariners' 40-man roster, but he came close to winning a reserve role on Seattle's Opening Day squad on the back of his strong defense at three infield spots. McCoy produced a meager .571 OPS, however, in his 44 at-bats in Cactus League play, and his deficiencies with the bat may prevent him from getting an extended look as a regular if he surfaces in the majors at some point later in 2023.

Dylan Moore - Expected back by mid-April Mariners manager Scott Servais said Monday that Moore (oblique) is expected to return from the injured list by mid-April, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
Impact Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times adds that Moore swung a bat, played catch and fielded grounders Monday. The utility player has missed all of spring training following offseason core muscle surgery and more recently an oblique strain, but he's made nice progress and his stay on the injured list is expected to be a short one.

Justin Topa - Dispatched to minors The Mariners optioned Topa to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Acquired from the Brewers in January, Topa had a so-so performance in his first camp with Seattle. The hard-throwing righty turned in a 2.25 ERA and struck out eight batters over eight frames in Cactus League play, but he issued three walks and allowed a .300 average to opposing batters. So long as he steers clear of the health issues that have derailed him the past two seasons, Topa should stand a decent chance of surfacing in Seattle's bullpen at some point in 2023.
